Business Unit: Orthopaedics, FraBeNe Cluster
The Business Development & Marketing Director, Orthopaedics will lead growth strategy, business development, and downstream marketing across the FraBeNe cluster, covering France, Belgium, and the Netherlands. This role is responsible for driving profitable growth across Knees, Hips, Trauma, Robotics, and Enabling Technologies by developing customer relationships, identifying new business opportunities, improving commercial execution, and building strong marketing capabilities across the cluster.
This is a highly strategic and customer-facing leadership role requiring strong commercial acumen, deep orthopaedics market knowledge, and the ability to lead teams through growth, innovation, and change. The successful candidate will bring an entrepreneurial mindset, a passion for sales, and a proven track record of building business opportunities and delivering results in a competitive medical device environment.
Location: France preferred — ideally Paris or Lyon, field-based and within approximately two hours by train of the Neuilly office. Belgium or the Netherlands may also be considered.
Travel: Approximately 50%, customer-facing
What will you be doing?- Lead the development and execution of growth strategies to achieve cluster sales targets across Knees, Hips, Trauma, Robotics, and Enabling Technologies.
- Manage and develop a dedicated team of Marketing Managers and Business Development Specialists across France, Belgium, and the Netherlands.
- Build strong relationships with key customers, healthcare providers, procurement groups, purchasing organizations, and orthopaedic opinion leaders.
- Identify, develop, negotiate, and close new business opportunities with key decision makers.
- Drive sales management excellence through improved segmentation, targeting, lead generation, pipeline management, win/loss analysis, and performance tracking.
- Own Robotics revenue performance and support the preparation and harmonization of capital sales contracts across the cluster.
- Partner with Medical Education teams to develop and coordinate cluster strategies that support product adoption and commercial growth.
- Build and deliver marketing plans across Knees, Hips, Trauma, Robotics, and Enabling Technologies.
- Lead product management activities including product mix optimization, pricing and profitability analysis, launches, phase-outs, life cycle management, and sales enablement tools.
- Develop and manage KOL mapping, expert panels, customer roadshows, webinars, and engagement plans to expand market share and brand awareness.
- Collaborate closely with sales, marketing, operations, medical education, and other cross-functional teams to improve efficiency, execution, and customer experience.
- Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, International Trade, Business, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years’ sales experience in orthopaedics, medical devices, or a closely related healthcare environment.
- Experience with orthopaedics and capital equipment strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of complex technical sales, including creating, negotiating, and closing large-scale commercial opportunities.
- Demonstrated success in prospecting, developing new business, and gaining competitive accounts.
- Strong commercial leadership capability with the ability to motivate teams and drive results.
- Experience building relationships with procurement and purchasing groups.
- Strong multinational and cross-cultural project management experience.
- Ability to develop and operationalize strategies that drive profitable growth.
- Excellent stakeholder management, relationship-building, communication, and organizational skills.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Fluent written and verbal English required.
