JOB DESCRIPTION

UHY Resource Solutions Group

Business Development Director

About UHY Resource Solutions Group

UHY’s Resource Solutions Group (RSG) is a national finance and accounting talent practice serving the Office of the CFO. We work with companies ranging from $100 million to $10 billion in revenue, providing interim staffing, project-based consulting, and direct hire solutions. As part of a global CPA and advisory firm, RSG operates with a level of credibility, technical depth, and market insight that traditional staffing firms cannot match.

Our approach is built on a simple belief: CFOs do not need more pressure—they need clarity. The best conversations with finance leaders happen before urgency forces action. We help CFOs, Controllers, and senior finance leaders see what’s coming next and move earlier, calmer, and with control. That mindset defines how every RSG Business Developer shows up in the market.

The Role

We are looking for a Business Development Director who opens doors. This is a new-business role first and foremost—someone who thrives on identifying, initiating, and winning new client relationships across the Office of the CFO. You will be the tip of the spear: prospecting into new markets, creating first conversations with CFOs and senior finance leaders, and converting those conversations into lasting client partnerships.

This role requires initiative, persistence, and a genuine comfort with outbound engagement. You are not waiting for the phone to ring. You are identifying the right organizations, finding the right leaders, and earning the right to a conversation by leading with relevance—not a pitch. The best candidates bring a natural curiosity about what finance leaders are facing and can speak credibly about the pressures of the close, reporting demands, team transitions, and operational complexity.

What You Will DoCreate New Business
  • Identify and pursue new client opportunities across mid-market and upper mid-market organizations, with a primary focus on the Office of the CFO
  • Develop and execute targeted outreach strategies that lead with the prospect’s world—naming the patterns and pressures finance leaders face rather than leading with our services
  • Initiate first conversations with CFOs, Chief Accounting Officers, Controllers, and Directors of Finance through disciplined, consistent prospecting activity
  • Build a qualified pipeline of new opportunities through networking, referrals, industry events, and direct outreach
  • Guide prospects through a discovery process that surfaces real needs and creates momentum without pressure—keeping control with the leader at every step
Build and Deepen Client Relationships
  • Serve as the primary relationship owner for assigned accounts, bridging the client’s talent needs with RSG’s integrated service model (interim staffing, project consulting, and direct hire)
  • Maintain regular contact with existing clients to anticipate emerging needs, identify transitions, and expand engagement across the finance function
  • Coordinate with recruiting, delivery, and UHY advisory teams to ensure seamless execution and client satisfaction
  • Identify cross-selling opportunities across UHY’s broader advisory, tax, and consulting practices
Represent RSG in the Market
  • Attend industry events, conferences, and executive networking functions as a credible representative of UHY’s CPA firm platform
  • Deliver RSG’s message with consistency and clarity—every conversation is a brand touchpoint
  • Contribute market intelligence, competitive insights, and strategic account planning to RSG leadership
Contribute to Practice Growth
  • Track and report on business development activity, pipeline health, and revenue performance through Salesforce/Bullhorn CRM systems
  • Participate in RSG’s ongoing sales training program, including role-play practice, coaching sessions, and methodology development
  • Supervise and mentor junior business development team members as the practice scales
Who You Are

You are a door-opener by nature. You do not wait for opportunities to come to you—you create them. You are energized by new conversations, comfortable with senior executives, and persistent without being pushy. You understand finance from the inside—not just as a market to sell into, but as a discipline you respect and can speak to credibly. You are drawn to an approach that replaces pressure with clarity and values the long game over the quick win.

Required
  • 8+ years of business development or sales experience with a demonstrated track record of originating new client relationships in professional services, staffing, or consulting
  • A hunter mentality—proven ability to prospect, create first meetings, and convert new business, not just manage existing accounts
  • Strong understanding of the Office of the CFO—including the roles, pressures, and decision-making dynamics of CFOs, Controllers, Directors of Finance, and senior accounting managers
  • Excellent communication skills—able to speak credibly about accounting, reporting, close processes, and financial operations
  • Comfort with outbound prospecting, networking, and initiating relationships where none previously existed
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or equivalent professional experience
  • Proficiency with CRM tools (Salesforce/Bullhorn preferred) and disciplined pipeline management
Preferred
  • CPA designation or public accounting background (attest, advisory, or consulting)
  • Experience within a CPA firm, Big Four, or national professional services environment
  • Prior experience in finance/accounting staffing or consulting sales (e.g., RGP, Kforce, Robert Half, Sirius Solutions, or similar)
  • Familiarity with consultative or insight-led selling approaches
  • Experience managing or mentoring business development professionals
What Sets This Role Apart

This is not a typical Business Development role. RSG operates within UHY, a global CPA and advisory firm, which gives our Business Developers an immediate credibility advantage in the market. You will be engaging the Office of the CFO with a structured, proven approach that aligns with how finance leaders actually think and decide.

RSG’s leadership brings deep, firsthand experience in this space—including CPA backgrounds, Big Four experience, and proven success building and scaling national practices from the ground up. You will be learning from and working alongside people who have opened markets, built offices, won landmark engagements, and grown practices to national scale.

If you are tired of the transactional churn of traditional sales and want to sell smarter—with a system, a credible platform, and a leadership team that has done it themselves—this is the role.

Work Environment & Expectations
  • This role requires regular in-person engagement with prospects and clients across your assigned market
  • Time will be split between the UHY office, client sites, and industry events
  • Travel may be frequent depending on client and market needs
  • Work volume and scheduling may vary with client demands; flexibility is expected

Required education and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in business development, sales, or related role

  • 8+ years of relevant experience

  • Strong understanding of accounting and finance principles

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to build and maintain client relationships

  • Proven track record of meeting and exceeding sales targets

Preferred education and experience

  • Proven experiences in business development, sales, or related role within the CPA or financial services industry
