Summary Generated by Built In

Discom is the global market and technology leader in acoustic quality analysis and end-of-line (EoL) production testing for the automotive industry. As an innovation driver within Hottinger Brüel & Kjær (HBK), we solve noise and vibration problems for assembly units worldwide ranging from classic transmissions and combustion engines to advanced powertrain technologies and emerging applications such as actuator systems.

Our high-precision measurement systems (comprising state-of-the-art sensors, frontend hardware, and advanced analysis software) are integrated into production test benches globally to detect assembly faults and ensure the highest acoustic quality. What differentiates us is the unique combination of high-precision measurement technology and deep application know-how, enabling our customers to solve complex NVH challenges directly in their production processes.

To accelerate our growth and strengthen our presence in the North American market, we are seeking a highly motivated, technically minded Business Development Manager (USA).

Role Purpose

This role is dedicated to expanding Discom’s footprint in the US automotive and industrial testing markets. You will drive growth by identifying new business opportunities, acquiring new strategic customers (OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, and test bench manufacturers), and establishing Discom as the go-to partner for NVH and acoustic testing solutions in the USA. In this role, you will also act as a key bridge between US customers and our engineering teams in Germany, with direct influence on product development and market positioning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify, target, and acquire new customers and applications within the US automotive market, with a strong focus on eDrive, transmission, drivetrain and emerging actuator and new applications e.g. humanoids.
  • Act as the technical and commercial expert for Discom’s NVH EoL testing systems, explaining complex acoustic and vibration measurement concepts to engineering and quality assurance teams.
  • Proactively generate and nurture high-quality sales leads, managing the full sales cycle from initial contact to closing.
  • Understand customer-specific test bench requirements and collaborate on tailoring Discom’s hardware and software solutions to their production lines.
  • Translate complex technical requirements into clear value propositions for the customer, such as improved quality assurance, reduced production risks, and more efficient data-driven decision-making.
  • Gather deep market insights and act as the “voice of the customer” to provide feedback to our German R&D and Engineering teams, supporting market-driven product development.
  • Manage and track your sales pipeline and local order intake, providing transparent reporting and accurate forecasting.
  • Build long-term, trust-based relationships with key accounts, supporting them through test installations and evaluations.
  • Participate in industry trade shows, conferences, and customer workshops to build brand awareness for Discom in North America.
Required Qualifications & Skills
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Acoustics, or a comparable technical discipline.
  • Proven track record in technical sales, application engineering, or business development, preferably within the automotive, test automation, or measurement technology sectors.
  • Solid technical understanding of acoustics, vibration analysis, or NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness). Prior experience with rotating machinery, drivetrains, or EoL testing is highly beneficial.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with a strong ownership mindset and entrepreneurial drive, able to work independently in a remote set-up.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional and international teams (especially with HQ in Germany).
  • Willingness to travel extensively within the USA (approx. 50%) to visit customers, test benches, and partners, with occasional trips to the HQ in Germany and our partners in China.
What We Offer
  • Pivotal, high-impact role with high autonomy to play a lead part in expanding a global technology leader's presence in a key strategic market, actively shaping and developing your market.
  • Attractive compensation package, including performance-based incentives and comprehensive benefits.
  • An entrepreneurial environment with short decision-making paths, backed by the global strength of Hottinger Brüel & Kjær (HBK).
  • Cutting-edge technology in high-growth segments like advanced powertrain technologies and sensor applications.
  • Collaborating with a highly skilled and supportive U.S. team of application engineers and inside sales, with strong backing from global experts and engineering teams in Germany and China.
  • Close interaction with product development teams, giving you the opportunity to directly influence future solutions and market direction based on customer insights.
  • A growing US organization, closely connected to our global teams and supported by a strong technical backbone in Germany.

The pay range for this position is $105,000 to $115,000 annually plus 25% bonus. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting.
