Business Development Manager
This is a remote-based role; however, regular travel to customer sites and meetings will be required, making flexibility and a willingness to travel essential.

As a Business Development Manager, you'll play a key role in delivering our growth strategy by identifying, developing and securing new business opportunities across the waste and resource management sector. Working closely with the Head of New Business and the wider commercial team, you'll proactively generate leads, build a strong sales pipeline and develop relationships with prospective customers. You'll be responsible for managing opportunities through the full sales lifecycle, from initial engagement to contract award, delivering commercially competitive, value-led solutions that meet customer needs and achieve ambitious business growth targets.
Your core responsibilities
- Identify, develop and secure new business opportunities across agreed sectors and target markets.
- Generate, qualify and convert new business leads, managing opportunities through the full sales lifecycle from prospecting to contract award.
- Prepare and deliver high-quality tenders, proposals and commercial presentations that provide value-led solutions for prospective customers.
- Build strong relationships with prospective clients, understanding their business needs and positioning tailored solutions to win new business.
- Achieve and exceed new business sales targets through proactive prospecting, networking, referrals and strategic business development activities.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams to ensure a smooth handover of new contracts to operational teams following contract award.
- Maintain accurate CRM records, provide regular pipeline forecasts and manage sales activity in line with agreed KPIs.
- Represent the business professionally at customer meetings, networking events and industry engagements while keeping up to date with market trends, competitor activity and emerging opportunities.
Our essential requirements
- Previous business development experience, ideally within the waste management, environmental services or related industry.
- Proven track record of generating new business and achieving or exceeding sales and revenue targets.
- Strong commercial awareness with experience of managing complex sales processes, tenders and negotiations.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Experience using CRM systems and Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Self-motivated, highly organised and able to manage multiple opportunities while working to deadlines.
