GovDeals is transforming the way government and public-sector organizations sell surplus and seized assets. We are seeking a motivated, results-driven Business Development Manager to lead growth across Northern California and Northern Nevada while serving as a trusted advisor to public-sector clients. In this role, you will expand GovDeals' market presence by identifying new business opportunities, strengthening client relationships, and increasing adoption of our online auction platform. You will work with government organizations to help improve revenue recovery, streamline operations, and modernize asset disposition programs.

As the primary territory representative, you will manage a diverse portfolio of accounts while actively prospecting and engaging new agencies. Success in this role requires a consultative sales approach, strong relationship-building skills, and the ability to navigate complex government environments. You will conduct onsite meetings, presentations, product demonstrations, and training sessions to help clients maximize the value of GovDeals' solutions.

Working closely with sales leadership, client success teams, and marketing partners, you will develop strategic territory plans, uncover growth opportunities, re-engage inactive accounts, and support long-term client retention initiatives. This position offers significant field presence and travel throughout Northern California and Northern Nevada, making it ideal for a self-starter who thrives on building lasting partnerships, influencing key decision-makers, and delivering measurable business results.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute a strategic territory growth plan focused on increasing market penetration across Northern California and Northern Nevada.
  • Identify, prospect, and close new government and public-sector business opportunities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with municipal leaders, procurement professionals, law enforcement agencies, school districts, and other public-sector stakeholders.
  • Conduct in-person and virtual sales presentations, product demonstrations, and client training sessions.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients by providing ongoing consultation and best practices to maximize auction performance and revenue generation.
  • Partner with internal teams to drive account growth, client retention, and customer satisfaction.
  • Monitor territory performance, market trends, and competitive activity to identify opportunities and mitigate risks.
  • Re-engage dormant accounts and develop strategies to increase platform utilization among existing clients.
  • Maintain accurate sales forecasts, pipeline activity, and account records within CRM systems.
Qualifications

Education/ Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred. Prior coursework or experience related to business, public administration, sales, or customer service is a plus.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of hands-on experience in business development, customer success, client services, or a related client-facing role, preferably within a technology-enabled or service-based environment.
  • Experience working with government agencies, municipalities, school districts, or other public-sector organizations is strongly preferred, with an understanding of their processes, compliance considerations, and stakeholder dynamics.
  • Prior experience in a role requiring frequent travel, onsite client engagement, or field-based support is highly desirable.

Skills and Ability: 

  • Demonstrated ability to identify, prospect, and develop new business opportunities within assigned territories.
  • Consultative sales skills with the ability to understand client needs, present solutions, and influence decision-makers.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with government agencies, municipalities, school districts, law enforcement agencies, and other public-sector stakeholders.

Work Conditions/ Physical Demands: 

  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license, an acceptable driving record, and reliable transportation to support regular field travel, onsite client meetings, presentations, training sessions, and territory development activities.
  • This is a remote, field-based position requiring a professional, quiet, and distraction-free workspace with reliable high-speed internet and cellular service to conduct virtual meetings, manage CRM activity, and support timely client communication.
  • Must be able to travel frequently throughout the assigned territory, including to government facilities, municipal yards, warehouses, auction sites, and other client locations that may involve indoor and outdoor environments, varying weather conditions, uneven surfaces, stairs, and extended periods of standing or walking.
  • Must be able to operate standard office and mobile technology, transport a laptop and presentation materials, and communicate effectively by phone, video, email, and in-person with internal teams and public-sector clients.

Location: 

  • The ideal candidate would reside in Northern California.

Travel:

  • Extensive travel is required and may include frequent overnight stays and extended periods away from the primary work location (50% or more).

Pay & Benefits: 

Compensation is determined by various factors such as location, education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as internal and external equity and organizational needs.

In addition to base pay, this role is eligible for other compensation, such as commission.

The salary range for this position is $88,700 to $110,900 annually.  The variable pay includes commission which is based on sales. The posted range reflects our national average range for the job. We may ultimately pay more or less than the published range based on the factors mentioned above. This range may be modified in the future.
