Business Development Manager - Manufacturing and Technology Services
This role is based at the New Zealand Embassy in Beijing.

Our Beijing team sits at the heart of one of New Zealand's most important export markets. You will work closely with customers across the manufacturing and technology sectors, helping them navigate complexity, identify opportunities, build capability and achieve meaningful commercial outcomes.
What you'll be doing:
As a Business Development Manager, you'll become a trusted advisor to a portfolio of New Zealand exporters looking to grow and succeed in China.
Working alongside New Zealand exporters, government partners, industry stakeholders and colleagues across New Zealand and Greater China, you'll:
- Coach and guide exporters through complex market opportunities and challenges.
- Help customers develop stronger market strategies and make informed commercial decisions.
- Build influential networks and connections that create value and growth opportunities.
- Identify and support commercial opportunities aligned to customer growth ambitions.
- Provide market intelligence and insights that help customers navigate change and uncertainty.
- Challenge thinking constructively, helping customers test assumptions and explore new approaches.
- Lead and contribute to customer initiatives, projects and events that support business growth.
- Work collaboratively across NZTE's global network to deliver the best possible outcomes for customers.
What you’ll need to be successful:
We're looking for someone who combines strong commercial capability with the ability to build trusted relationships and influence outcomes.
You'll likely bring:
- Experience working in or alongside the manufacturing, infrastructure or technology sectors, ideally within China or international markets.
- Strong commercial acumen and an ability to understand business opportunities and challenges quickly.
- A proven ability to build credibility and trusted relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Experience advising customers, clients or business leaders in complex environments.
- Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder engagement skills.
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach with the energy and initiative to identify opportunities and make things happen.
- Sound judgement and the confidence to challenge constructively when needed.
- A collaborative mindset and genuine commitment to working as part of a high-performing team
