Job Description
We are recruiting a Business Development Manager for our life insurance business.The Business Development Manager responsibility includes driving sustainable revenue growth by developing, managing, and expanding distribution partnerships for the underwriter. The role focuses on broker, corporate, aggregator, and affinity channels, ensuring aligned growth with the company’s value proposition, risk appetite, and profitability objectives.
Assists in planning and implementing the pursuit of strategic opportunities by cultivating partnerships or other commercial relationships or by identifying new markets for the entity's products or services.
Key Result Areas
Business Growth
Identify, develop, and onboard new distribution partners including brokers, corporate agencies, aggregators, and affinity groups.
Drive premium growth across assigned channels in line with annual sales targets.
Expand penetration within existing partners through cross sell and upsell strategies
Develop and execute business development plans to grow new business and retain profitable portfolios.
Prepare accurate sales forecasts and track performance against agreed KPIs.
Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, customers, and key stakeholders to maximize opportunities.
Collaborate with internal teams to enhance customer experience and service delivery.
Conduct regular performance reviews and joint business planning with partners.
Address placement challenges, market feedback, and service issues proactively.
Strengthen partner loyalty through value adding engagement and support.
Relationship Management
Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, customers, and key stakeholders to maximize opportunities.
Collaborate with internal teams to enhance customer experience and service delivery.
Conduct regular performance reviews and joint business planning with partners.
Address placement challenges, market feedback, and service issues proactively.
Strengthen partner loyalty through value adding engagement and support.
Sales Enablement
Facilitate product training, sales coaching, and technical support for intermediaries.
Ensure timely submission, conversion, and placement of business.
Support sales initiatives through broker meetings, presentations, and targeted campaigns.
Support pricing discussions and scheme structuring in collaboration with actuarial and underwriting teams.
Compliance
Ensure all business is written in compliance with regulatory, underwriting, and risk frameworks.
Manage portfolio profitability, ensuring compliance with underwriting standards, claims ratios, and premium collection targets.
Support due diligence and onboarding processes for new partners.
Qualifications and experience required
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field.
Certificate Of Proficiency (life Insurance)-Required
Associate Insurance Institute of South Africa (AIISA)-Required
Proven track record of at least 5-10 years in business development within the life insurance industry or financial services sector.
Relevant certifications in sales, business development, or insurance would be advantageous.
Knowledge in life insurance.
Strong sales background.
