The Purpose

As the BDM – Government, your role will be focused on growing AP+'s commercial outcomes across government by identifying, shaping and progressing strategic opportunities that support our public-interest purpose and domestic payments priorities. Your role will see you build trusted relationships with senior government stakeholders, translate government and ecosystem needs into clear opportunities and value cases, and lead proposals and commercial initiatives that drive adoption, partnership outcomes and long-term value for Australian consumers and businesses.

This role will suit someone who understands how government decisions are made and knows how to move a strategic opportunity forward. You might come from business development, government relations, public sector advisory or a senior government-facing commercial role.

What you’ll do
  • Build trusted relationships with senior government stakeholders, including State and Territory Treasury departments, to understand priorities and identify where AP+ can contribute.
  • Track policy, reform and funding developments, and assess what they could mean for AP+ and the wider payments ecosystem.
  • Develop and manage a pipeline of government opportunities that align with AP+’s strategy, products and delivery capacity.
  • Create engagement and account plans for priority stakeholders, bringing together relationships across government and the broader ecosystem.
  • Lead proposals for small to medium initiatives, coordinating commercial inputs, risk considerations and internal teams.
  • Assess the feasibility of opportunities and contribute to business cases, weighing potential benefits, costs, risks and strategic fit.
  • Work with the broader commercial team to progress AP+ opportunities with other stakeholders.
What you’ll bring
  • Experience in business development, strategic engagement, government relations, public sector advisory or a senior commercial role involving government.
  • Confidence engaging senior government stakeholders and an understanding of how government priorities, policy, funding and implementation connect.
  • Ideally, experience working with State or Territory Treasury departments, central agencies or Ministerial Offices.
  • A track record of identifying, qualifying and progressing complex opportunities.
  • Experience shaping bids, proposals or business cases, balancing stakeholder needs with commercial, risk and delivery considerations.
  • Strong judgement and relationship skills, with the ability to build credibility, influence decisions and navigate competing priorities.
  • Familiarity with financial services or payments would be an advantage.
  • The ability to work autonomously, manage a varied pipeline and adapt as priorities change.

You’ll join a team working across government, industry and the payments ecosystem to develop opportunities with the potential to create lasting value for Australian consumers and businesses.
