Salary: Negotiable, DOE

The salary range for this role is broad, as we are able to consider varying levels of experience.  Any offer made will carefully take into account level of experience (including relevant industry experience), transferable relevant skills and previous relevant achievements.

About us

Riverlane’s mission is to master quantum error correction (QEC) and unlock a new age of human progress. From advances in material and climate science, to complex chemistry simulation for new drug design, quantum computers will help humanity solve some of its most important challenges. But without QEC, the industry’s defining technical challenge, such breakthroughs can never be achieved.  Riverlane is the world leader in QEC technology. QEC is a complex problem that requires a range of skills, talent and passion.

Having raised more than $125M in funding to date to accelerate our cutting-edge R&D in quantum error correction (QEC), Riverlane partners with many of the world’s leading quantum hardware providers and government agencies to make fault-tolerant quantum computing a reality. We’re making remarkable progress and growing fast.

About the role

Riverlane is scaling its presence across Asia-Pacific, with active engagements and opportunities across Australia, Japan, Singapore and South Korea. As Business Development Manager - APAC, you will own and grow Riverlane's commercial pipeline across the region, converting early relationships into contracted revenue, and identifying new government and industry opportunities as Riverlane's quantum error correction technology moves toward commercial deployment.

What you will do

Grow the APAC Pipeline

  • Own and progress existing engagements (e.g. national research institutes, government-funded programmes, and commercial partners) from initial contact through to signed contracts

  • Identify and qualify new opportunities across priority APAC markets, including government RFIs/RFPs, industry partnerships, and academic/national-lab collaborations

  • Build and maintain a regional pipeline view, tracking deal stage, value, and next steps for internal stakeholders

Build and Manage Relationships

  • Act as Riverlane's primary regional point of contact for key partners and government stakeholders

  • Represent Riverlane at regional conferences, briefings, and partner events

  • Work closely with in-region contacts and distributors/agents where relevant to extend reach

  • Collaborate with Riverlane's regional BD leads in North America and UK & Europe to align on global partners and coordinate opportunities that span multiple regions

 Shape Market Strategy

  • Feed market intelligence (competitor activity, funding programmes, procurement cycles) back into Riverlane's wider go-to-market strategy

  • Contribute to shared pipeline tracking and reporting (e.g. weekly Account and Sales Operations activity, annual pipeline reviews)

  • Work with leadership to prioritise markets and opportunities based on commercial potential and strategic fit

  • Support proposal and bid development for major programmes, coordinating input from technical, legal, and finance teams

Cross-functional Coordination

  • Partner with Riverlane's technical and product teams to ensure proposals and partnership terms reflect what Riverlane can credibly deliver

  • Liaise with Legal and Finance on subcontract and partnership terms

  • Keep internal stakeholders (leadership, government relations, marketing) informed of regional developments

What we Need

Skills

  • Strong relationship-builder, comfortable operating across cultures and working with government, industry, and academic stakeholders

  • Able to work independently across time zones, with excellent self-organisation

  • Comfortable navigating long, multi-stakeholder sales cycles typical of government and deep-tech procurement

  • Able to go technically deep enough to represent Riverlane's technology credibly, without needing to be a domain expert

  • Excellent written and verbal communication; able to tailor messaging for technical and non-technical audiences

  • Commercially minded, with strong negotiation and contract-awareness skills

Experience

  • 5+ years in business development, partnerships, or sales, ideally in deep tech, government/defence, or complex B2B/B2G environments

  • Experience working across APAC markets (Australia, Japan, Korea, Singapore, or wider region); language skills in Japanese or Korean are a plus but not required

  • Technical degree (engineering, physics, computer science, or related) preferred but not essential

  • Track record of closing complex, multi-stakeholder deals (government or enterprise)

  • Familiarity with quantum computing, HPC, or another emerging deep-tech sector is beneficial but not essential

What can you expect from us
  • A comprehensive benefits package that includes an annual bonus plan, private medical insurance, life insurance, and a contributory pension scheme
  • Equity, so that our team can share in the long-term success of Riverlane
  • A diverse work environment that brings together experts in many fields (including software and hardware development, quantum information theory, physics and maths) and over 20 different nationalities
  • A learning environment that encourages individual, team and company growth and development, including a regular programme of learning events and training and conference budgets
