Business Development Director About the Position 

The Business Development Director is responsible for developing new opportunities with prospects and expanding existing business and relationships with clients in their assigned territory. They will achieve this through their own prospecting and account management activities, partnering with other NEI team members involved in the accounts, and leveraging NEI’s marketing efforts. The Business Development Director is the primary liaison between prospects and clients and with NEI internal stakeholders (e.g., Proposals, Marketing, and Engineering). You will work in a highly collaborative manner to ensure prospects and clients understand how NEI’s solutions, and partnership with them, fit their needs and provide business value. 

Salary Range: $150,000 - $185,000 / year  

The salary range above is based upon the Denver, Colorado labor market. 

This opportunity is available to both local / in-office (Lakewood, CO) and full-time remote candidates.  

Essential Responsibilities 
  • Meet or exceed assigned territory order intake quota. 

  • Identify prospects where NEI has a competitive advantage and connect with the appropriate decision makers to position NEI for new opportunities. 

  • Uncover and understand prospect and client needs and strategically plan and execute a winning account strategy.  

  • Collaborate effectively with the operations and proposals teams to develop winning strategies and technical solutions. 

  • Develop and implement strategies to position NEI as the recommended and preferred engineering contractor in the utilities market. 

  • Ensure all prospect and client interactions are logged and always current in NEI’s HubSpot. 

  • Provide ongoing Voice of the Client and Voice of the Market feedback to NEI to aid in improving our offerings, proposals, support, and marketing efforts. 

  • Understand and comply with the Company’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics. 

Skills & Knowledge 
  • Extensive knowledge of engineering, development, and construction within the Utility, Renewable Energy, and Industrial markets. 

  • Adept at developing trust and rapport with prospects and clients in a hybrid manner, meaning face to face and virtually. 

  • Experience in a ‘Seller-Doer’ model: leveraging in a structured, sustainable manner, the multiple NEI team members who have touch points with a prospect or Client showing ‘One NEI’. 

  • Ability to evaluate and convey complex information to others in an effective manner.  

  • Solid experience and success selling in a multi-channel environment, not direct to end-user only. Many of our projects are ‘bid-to-bid’. 

  • Thrives in a competitive and dynamic market embraces the challenge. 

  • Excellent listener who knows how to ask the right questions to uncover what the prospect or client truly needs. 

  • A strategic approach to account management and targeting prospective clients; you plan your work, and you work your plan. 

  • An effective sales methodology that you follow consistently because it works. 

  • A high level of accountability with a solutions mindset and a ‘can do’ attitude.  

  • Proven ability to make independent decisions. 

Must Have 
  • Over ten years of successful sales experience in the Utilities market. 

  • Possesses effective written and oral communications skills, enabling strong, effective working relationships. 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite of products, virtual communication tools like Teams, and CRM tools. 

  • Proven ability to be highly effective in working in a remote or hybrid environment. 

  • Ability to thrive in a company environment that is fast moving, evolving, and growing. We are changing tires on a moving bus. 

  • Currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. 

Nice to Have 
  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering related field. 

  • Worked at companies of various sizes and maturity and not large companies only where all processes are developed and mature. 

  • Existing strong relationships with companies could be NEI clients. 

  • Experience helping a company sell in new markets or sell new offerings to existing markets. 

Working Conditions 

Work Environment: Work is performed in an office setting and on the road when traveling to see prospects and clients  

Travel: Consistent: 25 - 50%

Physical Activities: Must be able to lift 25lbs.
