Job Profile Summary

Chaucer are undertaking a major data transformation programme to drive business growth, optimise operations, and strengthen business protection. We are seeking an experienced Business Data Analyst to maximise the value of our data by resolving underlying gaps and strengthening data integrity.

We are seeking a highly motivated Business Analyst capable of combining analytical rigour with practical problem‑solving. In this role, you will help enhance the quality, reliability, and trustworthiness of Chaucer’s data by identifying issues, designing fit‑for‑purpose solutions, and collaborating closely with business teams, data stewards, and engineering stakeholders. This role suits someone who is curious, structured, and comfortable working both independently and collaboratively to diagnose root causes, analyse data behavior, and translate findings into meaningful improvements.

Key Responsibilities

Business Analysis & Requirements Gathering

  • Investigate data issues across underwriting, delegated authority, operations, finance, and claims.

  • Conduct root‑cause analysis focused on business processes and upstream/downstream flows, not technical debugging.

  • Translate business needs into clear data quality requirements, definitions, and acceptance criteria.

  • Facilitate workshops with SMEs to define data rules, business definitions, and process dependencies.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build trusted relationships across Chaucer’s business units, especially underwriting, operations, finance, and DA.

  • Act as a bridge between business stakeholders and technical teams, ensuring aligned understanding of issues and expected outcomes.

  • Influence adoption of improved data practices across change initiatives and BAU workflows.

  • Present insights and recommendations clearly and concisely to business stakeholders, including senior audiences.

  • Support communication, training, and change management activities related to data quality improvements.

Data Governance & Quality

  • Support Data Owners and Data Stewards with issue identification, prioritisation, and domain responsibilities.

  • Contribute to the identification, documentation, and management of Critical Data Elements (CDEs).

  • Maintain or enrich business metadata, dictionaries, and definitions (technical metadata handled by specialist teams).

  • Support monitoring and reporting of data quality metrics and issue resolution progress.

  • Ensure alignment with Chaucer’s governance frameworks, policies, and data classification standards.

Teamwork & Ways of Working

  • Actively contribute to data transformation initiatives and cross‑functional improvement projects.

  • Participate in agile ceremonies such as daily stand‑ups, backlog refinement, and show & tell sessions.

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in Data Governance, Data Quality, Engineering, and business domains.

Tools & Analytics (Business-Focused)

  • Interpret reports, dashboard outputs, and SQL/Snowflake extracts with support from technical specialists.

  • Use available data to validate business issues and test assumptions.

Skills and Competencies

Essential

  • Strong London Market and Lloyd’s insurance knowledge, including understanding of key market processes (open market, delegated authority), data standards (e.g., MRC/CDR/Blueprint Two), and underwriting lifecycle.

  • Proven Business Analyst experience, including requirements gathering, process mapping, and facilitating workshops.

  • Exceptional stakeholder management, with the ability to influence, challenge constructively, and build strong cross‑functional relationships.

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving ability, with the skills to translate business issues into structured data requirements.

  • Understanding of data governance, stewardship models, data quality principles, and business ownership responsibilities.

  • Ability to understand data flows, lineage concepts, and upstream/downstream dependencies from a business perspective.

Desirable

  • Familiarity with SQL, Snowflake, and Power BI (high‑level understanding only; hands‑on expertise not required).

  • Experience working in data transformation or data governance programmes within the London Market.

  • Knowledge of data dictionary, metadata, and lineage documentation practices.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.

  • Industry certifications in business analysis, data analysis, or London Market insurance are desirable.
