The Business Continuity Planner is responsible for ensuring that business operations remain resilient and uninterrupted during disruptions. This role involves assessing risks, developing and implementing continuity strategies, training teams, and leading crisis response efforts. The Planner collaborates with leadership and key departments to minimize risks, reduce downtime, and enhance operational stability.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
Risk Assessment & Analysis
- Identify critical business functions, dependencies, and potential vulnerabilities.
- Conduct risk assessments and business impact analyses.
- Evaluate past incidents to improve future resilience strategies.
- Assess third-party vendor and supply chain risks related to continuity.
- Business Continuity Planning & Implementation
- Develop, implement, and maintain business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
- Establish response protocols for IT, finance, operations, and HR.
- Design alternative operational strategies (e.g., remote work, backup sites).
- Ensure compliance with industry standards (ISO 22301, NIST).
- Conduct training sessions and simulations for crisis management teams.
- Promote a culture of preparedness through awareness programs.
- Oversee the implementation and maintenance of a Business Continuity Management System (BCMS).
- Regularly review and update continuity plans to align with evolving business needs.
- Lead and evaluate disaster recovery drills and incident response exercises.
- Track resilience metrics and report improvements to stakeholders.
- Crisis Management & Response
- Activate and coordinate response teams during disruptions.
- Manage communication with leadership, employees, customers, and external stakeholders.
- Conduct post-incident reviews to enhance response strategies.
- Assist in administrative and clerical tasks as assigned by management.
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Risk Management, IT, or a related field.
- Preferred but not required: Certifications such as CBCP, ISO 22301 Lead Implementer, or DRII.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and risk assessment skills.
- Expertise in business continuity planning, disaster recovery, and risk mitigation.
- Understanding of IT, finance, and operational processes in relation to business continuity.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.
- Familiarity with regulatory standards (ISO 22301, NIST).
