The Role
Customer-facing pre-sales consultant who translates laboratory and manufacturing requirements into tailored STARLIMS and MODA MES solutions, builds demos, authors RFI/RFP technical content, advises prospects, and hands off cleanly to Professional Services while collaborating cross-functionally.
Summary Generated by Built In

STARLIMS is hiring a Business Consultant to join our Pre-Sales organization, reporting to the Business Consultant Manager. This is a customer-facing, technical individual contributor role: you will act as the subject matter expert behind the sales cycle, translating customer laboratory and manufacturing requirements into tailored STARLIMS solutions across our LIMS and MODA manufacturing execution (MES) portfolio, and directly influencing purchase decisions.

This role is not a quota-carrying sales seat, and it is not implementation delivery. You won't own the commercial relationship or the post-sale build; those sit with Sales and Professional Services. Your mandate is focused: understand each customer's lab and manufacturing workflows deeply enough to design and demonstrate the right solution, and give the Sales Team the technical credibility to win. The position is highly visible across the organization and is central to both new business and customer retention.

What You'll Own (Jobs to Be Done):

Pre-Sales Solution Design

  • Partner with the Sales Team across the pre-sales cycle, from discovery through close, keeping technical strategy aligned with annual revenue objectives.
  • Translate customer laboratory, quality, and manufacturing requirements into tailored STARLIMS solutions spanning core LIMS and the MODA manufacturing execution (MODA-ES) and environmental monitoring (MODA-EM) platform.
  • Create and deliver solution demonstrations that showcase the strengths of the STARLIMS and MODA MES portfolio against the specific challenges each client brings.
  • Identify where a customer's needs extend beyond the lab onto the manufacturing floor, and shape lab-to-floor solutions that position STARLIMS as an end-to-end quality and manufacturing offering.

RFI / RFP and Technical Content

  • Own the technical and functional content for RFIs and RFPs, ensuring responses are comprehensive, accurate, and competitively positioned.
  • Build and maintain a reusable library of technical content, demonstration assets, and solution narratives so the team is not rebuilding from scratch on every deal.

Customer Engagement and Trust

  • Act as the technical advisor to prospects and customers, building the credibility and trust that carries a deal through evaluation.
  • Communicate complex technical and regulatory concepts clearly to both scientific and business audiences, including lab management, quality and compliance, manufacturing operations, and IT.
  • Stay engaged through the transition to Professional Services to ensure a clean handover and protect long-term customer retention.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Professional Services, Product Management, Sales Operations, Marketing, and Support to keep pre-sales and post-sales workflows cohesive and efficient.
  • Feed structured product feedback and enhancement requests back to Product Management, weighing both commercial outcomes and customer impact.
  • Partner with Marketing to translate new LIMS and MES capabilities into positioning the field can actually use.

Industry and Competitive Expertise

  • Stay current on laboratory informatics and manufacturing execution trends, competitive products, and emerging technologies to ensure informed positioning of our solutions.
  • Maintain working knowledge of the regulatory standards our customers operate under, and speak credibly to how STARLIMS supports compliance.

What You Bring (Requirements):

Required

  • Experience with LIMS, ELN, SDMS, QMS, or other regulatory/scientific informatics software.
  • Hands-on experience with manufacturing execution systems (MES), for example MODA-ES or comparable platforms supporting manufacturing execution, electronic batch records, or environmental monitoring in a regulated environment.
  • Hands-on experience in laboratory environments, or strong familiarity with laboratory operations and informatics requirements.
  • Strong understanding of the regulatory standards governing regulated laboratory and manufacturing operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop tailored technical solutions and communicate complex information effectively to mixed technical and business audiences.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a genuinely customer-focused approach to solution design.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills across a wide range of internal and client-facing interactions.
  • A collaborative working style. This role only succeeds by working seamlessly across multiple departments.
  • Professionalism and integrity: presenting complete and accurate information to internal and external stakeholders, and keeping commitments.

Preferred

  • Prior pre-sales, solutions consulting, or technical consulting experience supporting an enterprise software sales cycle.
  • Experience across life sciences, diagnostics, pharma and biotech, food and beverage, manufacturing, petrochemical, or public health lab environments.
  • Basic experience with SQL-compliant databases, particularly Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Experience supporting customers through a perpetual-to-subscription or on-premise-to-cloud transition.

What Success Looks Like in Year One

  • Sales sees you as the person they want in the room on their most technical and most competitive deals.
  • You've built and delivered tailored demonstrations across both the LIMS and MES portfolio, not just the core lab product.
  • RFI and RFP responses go out faster and stronger because of the content and structure you've put in place.
  • You've influenced at least one closed deal where the technical solution design was the deciding factor.
  • Product Management can point to specific roadmap input that came directly from your field insight.

Location: US-Remote
