Job Title: Business Analyst (Financial Reporting & Analytics)
Location: Calgary, Canada
Employment Type: Full-Time (Hybrid)
The Business Analyst will serve as a trusted analytical partner to Executive Leadership, responsible for delivering accurate, timely, and insightful financial reporting that supports strategic and operational decision-making.
This role combines strong financial and business understanding and exceptional communication skills. The Business Analyst will ensure that financial data from multiple enterprise systems is consolidated, governed, and presented clearly on a recurring monthly cadence, while also supporting ad hoc executive analysis as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Act as a primary analytics support resource for Executive Leadership, delivering monthly financial reports, dashboards, and performance summaries.
Translate complex financial and operational data into clear, executive-ready insights, including trends, variances, and risks.
Partner closely with Finance, Accounting, and Leadership teams to validate financial logic, assumptions, and interpretations.
Proactively identify data inconsistencies, anomalies, or gaps and drive resolution with source system owners.
Support ad hoc executive requests related to financial performance, forecasting, and strategic analysis.
Ensure dashboards follow best practices for usability, storytelling, and executive consumption.
Maintain high standards for data accuracy, refresh reliability, and security.
Continuously improve reports based on leadership feedback and evolving business needs.
Collaborate with IT and Finance system owners to onboard new data sources or modify existing integrations.
Extract and validate data from enterprise systems such as ERP platforms and business applications (e.g., Oracle, Salesforce).
Navigate enterprise data warehouses and financial reporting tools to source official, governed company financials.
Organize, clean, and analyze large-scale datasets, including tens of thousands of transactional or project-level records.
Support system validations, reconciliations, and data audits as required.
Support monthly project forecasting processes, including the collection and consolidation of forecast inputs from departmental Directors.
Good financial understanding across P&L, revenue, costs, margins, and variance analysis.
Manage analysis across multiple currencies, ensuring consistent conversion and presentation in a single company reporting currency.
Confidently present financial analysis and insights to Vice President and Director-level leadership.
Effectively respond to questions from Project Managers and operational stakeholders, adjusting the level of detail as needed.
Interface openly and professionally with multiple organizational levels and functional groups to gather inputs and clarify data.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, with a strong executive-facing mindset.
Show flexibility and willingness to support ad hoc requests and special projects, including system validations.
Maintain professionalism, discretion, and reliability when supporting executive leadership.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Strong understanding of financial concepts and corporate reporting principles.
High proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced formulas, pivot tables, and slicers.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, suitable for executive-level engagement.
Experience working with ERP systems and enterprise applications (e.g., Oracle, Salesforce).
Ability to extract and analyze data from data warehouses and financial databases.
Experience managing and analyzing large, complex datasets.
Proficiency with Microsoft productivity tools including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Background in Finance, Accounting, Business Analytics, or a related field.
Prior experience supporting C-level or senior executive stakeholders.
Exposure to project forecasting or regional financial reporting.
Power BI Reporting, knowledge of SQL & Dashboard Ownership
