Job Summary

As a Business Analyst, you work closely with business stakeholders to understand their needs and objectives while supporting the clarification of business solutions.  Using a variety of tools, you will elicit, document, and manage business requirements and processes.  Functional specifications are adjusted for the methodology in use and created through the translation of requirements.  You will support and lead the delivery of a quality solution through user acceptance testing and validation activities.  As your experience and capability increases, your skills and understanding will be sought out to support project management and leadership planning activities that support your business partners.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

45% Business Analysis and Requirements Management

  • Perform business analysis on all aspects of technology and business improvement projects, focusing on stakeholder analysis, requirement development and management, and acceptance testing.

  • Using a variety of elicitation techniques, work with key stakeholders to understand and document current ("as-is") and future state ("to-be") end-to-end processes and identify requirements.

  • Perform gap analysis between current and future state processes to document requirements necessary to move to future state.

  • Identify improvement opportunities to optimize future state design.

  • Evolve requirements from highest level needs and features to detailed requirements, collaborating with technical resources to ensure the technical solution meets the needs of the business.

  • Manage all aspects of requirements engineering, including elicitation, analysis, specification, verification, and management throughout the project lifecycle.

30% User Acceptance Testing Planning and Coordination

  • Lead User Acceptance Testing (UAT), including developing the test strategy, creating test scenarios and scripts, organizing and coordinating testers and testing activities, and reporting results.

15% Leadership and Influence

  • Communicate, facilitate and collaborate in a wide variety of settings and projects that are complex, up to and including enterprise-wide assignments.

  • Define procedures or identify innovative solutions for how to complete analytical tasks.

  • Influence decision making and actively engage with project leaders, sponsors, and key stakeholders to ensure optimum business value delivery.

  • Act as a mentor and role model for other team members.

  • Assist senior team members with project management duties.  May lead projects as necessary.

  • Assist Learning and Development producing job aids, training material and instruction manuals for end-users.

10% Problem Solving and Continuous Improvement

  • Drive continuous improvement of business analysis discipline.

  • Other duties, as assigned.

Skills and Background You’ll Need

  • Experience:  8 years of related experience that includes the following:

    • Experience in re-engineering processes to improve effectiveness and efficiency.

    • Experience in process improvement and project management preferred.

    • Experience in insurance operations preferred.

    • Excellent communication, time/project management, creative problem solving, organizational, and analytical skills.

  • Education:  Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field desired

    • Achievement of or progress toward:  Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI), Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) or Certification of Competency in Business Analysis (CCBA) preferred; Project Management Professional (PMP), certification in Process or Performance Management, or certification in Quality Assurance/Testing desirable. 

    • Preferred:  Masters Degree in Business or a related field.  Completed certification(s).

    • Highly encouraged:  Membership in local business analysis association.

  • Typically requires demonstrated expertise in Business Analysis that has been gained via a combination of formal education, certification processes, and/or practical experience.

  • At least 5 years of progressive experience providing business analysis in financial services, insurance, technology delivery or other related fields.

  • Demonstrated experience gathering and managing requirements.

  • Demonstrated experience leading user acceptance testing.

  • Sought out for communication, facilitation, and collaboration skills in a variety of settings and projects.

  • Applies a thorough understanding of analytical skills and navigates successfully through or improves company procedures and policies.

  • Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.

  • Determines methods and procedures on new assignments and can provide guidance to other personnel.

  • Using wide-ranging experience, uses professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways.

  • Communicates difficult concepts and negotiates with others to influence a different point of view.

  • Communicates with and influences management as appropriate to project needs.

  • Exercises critical thinking to support strategy and prioritization conversations with leaders.

  • Exercises judgment and identifies innovative solutions for group/function.

  • May be assigned as mentor to junior colleagues.

  • Works independently with guidance in only the most complex situations.

  • Demonstrated collaboration and communication skills with companywide contacts, external partners and vendors.

  • Networks with internal and external peers.

  • Progression to this level may be restricted based on division requirements.

  • Eligibility to participate in an incentive program is subject to the rules governing the program and plan. Any award depends on a variety of factors including individual and organizational performance.

Salary Range:

$107,250.00 - $156,750.00
