Position Specific Summary
The Budget Analyst position at the City of Tucson’s Business Services Department is responsible for assisting in the preparation and monitoring of budgets, ensuring that expenditures align with financial goals and constraints. This position involves analyzing financial data, preparing reports, and providing insights to support effective decision-making.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Budget Manager. This position does not supervise.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists in the preparation of overall budgets, makes recommendations by researching, documenting, and reviewing department budgets. Compiles and analyzes both statistical and fiscal data as the basis for preparing specific schedules, tables, and summaries.
- Reviews and processes budget transfer requests and budget amendments while evaluating and responding to budget requests. Assists in researching economic influences in the City’s revenues and expenditures. Provides support to budgeting platform users, including finance staff and City stakeholders.
- Assists with producing short-term, mid-term, and long-term forecasts. Uses historical data, trends, and other factors to forecast future financial performance and budget requirements.
- Drafts budget memorandums, reports, and presentations for review. Maintains files and documents. Assists departments in understanding and adhering to budget guidelines.
- Supports budget monitoring and forecasting activities, such as cost-benefit analysis, variance analysis, and scenario analysis.
- All other duties as assigned
