Who You Are:
We are seeking a candidate with a strong positive attitude toward customer service to act as a Staff Accountant. This person will have a genuine interest in working with older adults and be able to engage, motivate, and support both residents and fellow team members. Essential Functions
1. Prepares and posts periodic and recurring general ledger journal entries.
2. Assists Controller to ensure timely preparation and filing of all governmental tax compliance forms and external accountants regarding annual financial audit.
3. Assists in implementing the daily functions of the facility’s accounting department to include: daily bank deposits; inputting of daily charges for residents for activities, housekeeping, maintenance, beauty salon, guest rooms, lounge charges, extra meals, etc.
4. Responsible for set-up of incoming Independent Living residents and maintenance of accounting information in POS software for billing and meal plan.
5. Generate escrow deposit transfer letters for new settlements.
6. Assists Accounting Specialist in independent living billing monthly: enters cash receipts, resident charges (absence credits, beauty/barber, laundry/dry cleaning, activity charges, valet, housekeeping, maintenance, transportation, etc.), processes resident statements, sorts and delivers/mails statements to residents by the 1st of each month.
7. Performs health center billing monthly with input from MDS Coordinator and other health center personnel: enters cash receipts, resident charges (absence credits, beauty/barber, laundry/dry cleaning, activity charges, transportation, etc.), processes resident statements, sorts and delivers/mails statements to responsible parties by the 1st of each month.
8. Inputs data into the computer for Medicare A, Medicare B and Insurance claims and files with appropriate agencies.
9. Responsible for 3rd party pay source billing including Medicare, Medicaid and Private insurance.
10. Ensures that all ancillary charges for IL and HCC are timely entered and billed.
11. Maintain confidentially of all resident information; adhere to accounting practices to ensure that resident funds are maintained in accordance with current federal and state regulations and guideline.
12. Performs collection calls to residents/resident responsible party whose accounts are past due.
13. Prepares all deposits and applies payments to resident accounts and miscellaneous receipts including:
a. posts deposits to IL and HCC resident accounts
b. posts all miscellaneous receipts to appropriate general ledger accounts
c. transports deposits to bank
d. enter credit card payments
e. audit and entry of salon cash receipts and billing
14. Maintains POS software for resident meal programs and processes month end close.
15. Attend weekly Health Care Center meetings to stay current on all billing issues in health center.
16. Perform billing Audit with Therapy, MDS, Social Services and Medical Records.
17. Prepares month end analysis reports for independent living and health care A/R.
18. Maintains supporting documents in logical fashion, paperless where possible.
19. Attends in-service training and education sessions, as assigned.
20. Provide back-up support for processing of payroll, payroll administrative functions and day-to-day payroll/timekeeping functions as needed including,
f. processing biweekly payroll,
g. creation of manual payroll checks,
h. generation and posting of payroll general ledger payroll entries,
i. preparation and distribution of payroll variance reports to Directors,
j. remain current on Paycom processes and procedures.
21. Cross train accounting staff to perform above billing and collection duties.
22. All other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in business and two to five years proven success in accounting.
- Strong PC skills, including experience using MS Office, Outlook and Excel.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Good knowledge of regulations, policies and procedures which apply to accounting and financing in the healthcare industry.
- Excellent attention to detail.
