Job SummaryAre you passionate about live broadcast technology and ready to take ownership of high-stakes system reliability? Join Advanced Systems Group as a Live Broadcast Systems Engineer and play a key role in supporting a world-class media facility's mission-critical operations, working in close partnership with an experienced operations team to keep systems healthy, resilient, and ready for anything live production demands.
Our client operates a newly built, world-class broadcast and radio facility that supports both live radio production and broadcast-level video production under one roof. The facility includes four radio studios, two large and two small, alongside a dedicated sound stage supporting live video productions. Built and structured as a true broadcast facility, the environment runs on a modern IP media infrastructure alongside traditional baseband systems, supporting high visibility, always-on live productions.
This is a full time, permanent, on site opportunity based in Culver City, CA.
What We Are Looking For
A senior level or EIC level engineer with a track record of owning and operating a built, permanent broadcast facility
A well rounded, jack of all trades broadcast engineer who is comfortable across both audio and video systems
A true partner to the operations team, someone who takes pride in keeping high-visibility live productions running smoothly behind the scenes
A collaborative engineer who brings ideas and improvements to the table and enjoys building trust with the teams they support
Someone who thrives on ownership and autonomy, comfortable spotting risk early and getting ahead of problems before they impact a live show
What You Will Do
Provide on-site support based in Culver City, CA, with regular travel to a nearby secondary site in Marina del Rey, approximately 15 minutes away. Travel beyond these two locations is rare
Serve as a senior escalation point for complex technical issues that go beyond standard operational troubleshooting, working in close coordination with an existing operations team that handles day to day tier 1 and tier 2 issues
Lead preventative maintenance and forward looking risk identification across the facility's broadcast and streaming systems, both audio and video, keeping equipment at optimal health and readiness
Conduct in depth investigations on issues that require sustained effort, including extended engagements with manufacturers, testing, and RMA processes
Develop and manage configuration backups and equipment baselines for critical systems
Schedule and execute preventative maintenance around a dynamic live broadcast calendar
Document and maintain detailed service histories, run books, and a standing maintenance calendar
Ensure organized, clean, and efficient machine room infrastructure and cabling
Troubleshoot and perform service restoration for SDI, IP media including ST 2110, Dante, AES67, and MADI, and supporting infrastructure
Apply rigorous, systematic testing to isolate problems from application through physical layer
Own case resolution with manufacturers, driving issues through to successful outcomes and managing vendor relationships
Produce clear incident reports and documentation, empowering operational teams to resolve or avoid common issues
Identify patterns and develop remediation projects to increase reliability and reduce recurring issues
Scope and support integration and remediation projects, working alongside client engineers and system integrators
Coordinate with specialized teams, such as network engineering, on issues outside this role's direct scope
Required Qualifications
Prior experience in an Engineer in Charge role, or a similar senior engineering role, within a built, permanent broadcast facility environment
Comprehensive technical proficiency across a live broadcast technology stack, including SDI, SMPTE ST 2110, Dante, AES67, MADI, PTP timing, NMOS control, camera robotics, broadcast cameras, LED walls, and video switchers. Familiarity with AVB is a plus. No single candidate is expected to be expert in every protocol, but must be confident enough to diagnose issues and drive them to resolution
Deep broadcast engineering experience across both audio and video systems, with demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex live systems from application layer through physical layer
Strong, repeatable testing and fault isolation methodology
Proven live environment discipline, with a clear understanding of coordinated downtime and on air safety
Ability to influence without direct authority, comfortable recommending process improvements within the defined scope of this role
Skilled at managing competing maintenance priorities in a live production environment without ever compromising operational safety
Strong technical writing and documentation skills, able to produce incident reports, MOPs, run books, and user facing guides
Strong communication skills with peer operational staff and with manufacturers during case resolution
Organized and accountable in managing vendor relationships, open cases, maintenance windows, and asset condition records
Comfortable operating within a highly matrixed environment where multiple teams contribute to a single production
Valid driver's license and personal vehicle, ability to travel locally between Culver City and Marina del Rey
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to perform in situ Layer 1 repairs for common cable types, including CAT 6A, 12G SDI, single pair audio, and similar, without calling out to an integrator
Experience scoping integration and remediation projects for management approval
Experience with Providius and Bridge Technologies monitoring tools
Working knowledge of Lawo Power Core and UHD Core DSP configuration, operation, and troubleshooting
