Job Summary:

The Broadcast Systems Engineer designs, installs, maintains, and troubleshoots the technical systems behind Gateway Church's broadcast and live production environment — audio, video, lighting, controls, rigging, LED, and the networks that tie them together. This role serves as the point engineer for all AVLC at the broadcast campus including stage design infrastructure at the Southlake campus while standardizing systems and providing hands-on support across the broader region. The Broadcast Systems Engineer partners closely with Central Live Production staff, campus teams, and central AVL discipline managers to keep broadcast systems reliable, current, and ready to scale, providing on-site and on-call support during services, events, and conferences as needed.

Principal Job Responsibilities:

  • Designs, installs, and maintains audio, video, lighting and control (AVLC) systems, including rigging and LED displays at the broadcast campus along with assisting across campuses in the region
  • Serves as point systems engineer and installer for quarterly stage design infrastructure, including rigging, LED, and schematics.
  • Owns AVLC system wiring, signal flow, and infrastructure documentation, and maintains inventory, system records, and as-built documentation for the broadcast campus.
  • Conducts regular inspections, preventative maintenance, and updates to hardware, software, and firmware to maintain AVLC system reliability.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves complex technical issues, including those escalated from campus and Live Production staff.
  • Efficiently manages and prioritizes assigned system helpdesk tickets, providing timely resolutions
  • Oversees production and control networks across broadcast campus, coordinating with IT and Facilities as needed.
  • Standardizes system configuration across campuses so equipment and Team Members are interchangeable between rooms
  • Supports broadcast campus technical build-outs, upgrades, and assist with new campus launches.
  • Collaborates with Live Production team members and broadcast campus LP staff on system enhancements and desired changes.
  • Partners with the Central Lighting, Video, and Audio Managers on discipline standards and equipment specification.
  • Provides on-site and on-call technical support during weekend services, mid-week services and events, special events, and conferences to address urgent broadcast system issues promptly
  • Maintains strong working knowledge of the audio, video, lighting, and control systems at their location, not only the discipline they operate
  • Performs routine and preventative maintenance on the systems they work with
  • Diagnoses and resolves first-line faults across audio, video, and lighting rather than escalating by default, and escalates with a clear account of what has already been tested
  • Keeps system documentation, patch files, and show files current for their location
  • Participates in the training provided by the Systems Engineers and maintains the competence level agreed for the role
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

As a member of the Gateway Church team, this position is expected to be available to support, recruit, and develop Serve Team members, and to serve alongside the broader team as ministry and organizational needs arise.

General Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong technical knowledge of broadcast, audio, video, and lighting system design, wiring, and signal flow
  • Strong working knowledge of audio, video, and lighting systems, live production workflow, and the engineering required to troubleshoot and keep systems operational
  • Able to maintain, support, and troubleshoot AVL systems independently, and to recognize when a fault needs an engineer
  • Willing to be trained and assessed to an agreed competence standard, and to keep that standard current as systems change
  • In-depth knowledge of rigging and safety practices
  • Working knowledge of production and control networks, and the protocols live systems run on
  • High level of problem-solving and technical troubleshooting skills, with the ability to resolve complex issues independently
  • Able to standardize systems across locations rather than solving each room differently
  • Able to function at a high level of effectiveness and calm under live, high-pressure conditions
  • Communicative skills that foster positive relationships with Live Production teams, central departments, and campuses
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong time-management skills and the ability to multi-task and hold several priorities at once
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with an aptitude to learn new software and systems such as Slack and Monday.com

Education/Certification(s):

  • Associate degree or equivalent experience in a technical field, and 5 or more years of broadcast systems engineering, installation, integration, or troubleshooting experience — required
  • Bachelor's degree, or certification in networking, audio, video, or lighting systems, or equivalent experience — required
  • Prior experience in a multisite church or multi-venue environment — preferred

General Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to:
