Classification

Type: Non-exempt, Part-Time OR Full-Time

Schedule: Flexible, 30–40 hours per week, Monday–Friday, to fit the right candidate's availability. Occasional evenings or weekends may be needed for special events.

Minimum starting hourly rate: $18.00–$21.00 per hour, depending on experience


Scott Family Amazeum Overview

The Scott Family Amazeum is Northwest Arkansas's premier hands-on children's museum, dedicated to inspiring creativity, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning through interactive play and discovery. As a nonprofit organization, the Amazeum relies on a strong, mission-driven team — including our Finance department — to manage resources responsibly and remain accountable to the families, donors, and community members we serve.

Position Summary

The Bookkeeper plays a vital role in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the Amazeum's financial records. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, this position is responsible for daily reconciliations across multiple financial reporting platforms, payroll and benefits reconciliations, journal entries, and other core bookkeeping functions that support the museum's financial operations.


Essential Functions 

  • Perform daily reconciliations across multiple financial reporting and point-of-sale platforms (e.g., admissions, membership, retail, and donor systems) to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Reconcile payroll and employee benefits data between providers, timekeeping systems, and the general ledger.
  • Prepare and review post journal entries for routine transactions, accruals, and account adjustments. 
  • Reconcile bank and credit card statements on a regular basis.
  • Maintain accurate, well-organized financial records and supporting documentation in accordance with nonprofit accounting standards and internal controls.
  • Assist the Accounting Manager with month-end close processes.
  • Support tracking of restricted and unrestricted funds.
  • Respond to internal inquiries regarding transaction coding, receipts, and account discrepancies.
  • Research and resolve accounting discrepancies in a timely manner.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements: 

  • 2+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience 
  • Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, OR a related field preferred; equivalent work experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Working knowledge of general bookkeeping principles, including debits/credits, accruals, reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance. 
  • Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or similar) and the ability to work across multiple platforms simultaneously
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel including sorting, filtering, formulas, and spreadsheet analysis.
  • High attention to detail 
  • Strong sense of ownership over accuracy
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and reconciliations without letting details slip
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive financial information. 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem solving skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for extended periods while performing computer-based work.
  • Frequently operate a computer, keyboard, calculator, telephone, copier, scanner, and other standard office equipment.
  • Frequently communicate with team members in person, by telephone, and electronically.
  • Ability to read, review, and analyze financial reports, spreadsheets, and other detailed documents, both in printed and electronic formats.
  • Occasionally move throughout the museum to access files, equipment, or meet with team members in various work areas.
  • Occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull office materials weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist movements associated with keyboarding and data entry.

Preferred Skills: 

  • Prior nonprofit or museum accounting experience
  • Experience with multi-entity or multi-platform reconciliations
  • Familiarity with fund or grant accounting
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
