The Bone Density Technician is responsible for performing DXA (Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry) procedures which use low energy x-rays to measure bone mineral density. The Bone Density Technician will obtain images that support diagnoses, such as osteopenia and osteoporosis. The Bone Density Technician conducts the preliminary analysis on images, and collaborates with the Radiologist and Radiologist Assistants who interpret images. The Bone Density Technician will maintain optimum timeliness, accuracy, proficiency, efficiency, and safety during the execution of duties, and works closely with patients to ensure they understand the procedure and are comfortable during procedures. If precision testing is part of the department protocol, this will be completed by the technician to ensure quality standards are current and precise. Professional certification specific to Bone Densitometry is available and accredited through the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). Such certification is encouraged, but not required.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
  • Perform DXA (Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry) procedures, which use low energy x-rays to measure bone mineral density.
  • Gather information on patients' medical history, position the patient and explain the procedure as to answer questions.  Use the minimum necessary dose of radiation to ensure the patients safety.
  • Conduct the preliminary analysis on images, and collaborate with the Radiologist and Radiologist Assistants who interpret images.
  • Maintain optimum timeliness, accuracy, proficiency, efficiency, and safety during procedures.
  • Work closely with patients to ensure they understand the procedure and are comfortable during procedures.

Qualifications
  • Required High School Diploma/GED
  • 1 year Healthcare setting or related field Required
  • 1 year Customer service or related Required
  • Basic Life Support Program (BLS) - American Heart Association
  • National Commission for Certifying Agencies Accreditation (NCCA) Certification - National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Bone Densitometry
  • TRAVEL IS REQUIRED:
