Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

This position is responsible for the following: Other duties may be assigned.  

  1. Responsible for the safe execution of Block Steel and Hot Outfitting (BHOTF) production activities in accordance with the company's overall safety goals, objectives and policies. 

  1. Direct and oversee structural steel block fabrication, assembly, and integrated hot outfitting work (welding-based outfitting installed during block construction) for assigned newbuilding project(s). 

  1. Develop, maintain, and execute the detailed shop floor schedule for Block Steel and Hot Outfitting work packages, in coordination with the Project Manager and NB Production Planning. 

  1. Ensure Block Steel and Hot Outfitting work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with all contractual and classification society requirements. 

  1. Coordinate the handoff of completed steel blocks and integrated hot outfitting to Painting and Cold Outfitting and other downstream production functions; Cold Outfitting, Electrical, HVAC, Mechanical, Blast/Paint, Deck Outfitting, and the Hull Assembly group on the various outfitting schedules, sequencing, and priorities to minimize or avoid resource and space conflicts. 

  1. Track and report Block Steel and Hot Outfitting cost, schedule, and performance metrics to the Project Manager and Project Planning Dept. on a regular basis. 

  1. Manage shop floor workforce planning, staffing, and resource allocation for Block Steel and Hot Outfitting trades. 

  1. Identify, track, and mitigate production risks within Block Steel and Hot Outfitting; escalate risks with project-wide impact to the Project Manager. 

  1. Coordinate with Production Engineering on construction drawings, work instructions, work packages, and engineering queries affecting Block Steel and Hot Outfitting work. 

  1. Ensure first-line workmanship self-verification within the shared Inspection and Test Plan for all Block Steel and Hot Outfitting work. 

  1. Coordinate module/block load-out or lifting planning and logistics with the Project Manager, transport, and the receiving site. 

  1. Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory, classification society, environmental, and customer requirements. 

  1. Ensure compliance with Gulf Copper Mission Statement and Quality Management System. 

  1. Conduct or participate in regular shop floor status, coordination, and safety meetings. 

  1. Capture and document lessons learned throughout Block Steel and Hot Outfitting production and share them across the newbuilding program. 

  1. Provide leadership, direction, and performance feedback to the Shop Floor Planner and shop floor personnel supporting Block Steel and Hot Outfitting. 

Required Education & Experience: 

  1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

  1. Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in shipbuilding, structural steel fabrication, or heavy industrial production, with direct experience in block construction and hot outfitting trades. 

  1. Demonstrated experience managing a shop floor production workforce and schedule for a complex fabrication or construction project. 

  1. Journeyman-level welding/fabrication trade credential or equivalent hands-on trade background preferred. 

Working Conditions: 

  1. Regular exposure to all weather conditions, especially hot, humid and / or rainy weather, combined with regular and extensive time spent on the production floor and waterfront areas. 

Necessary Equipment Operation: 

  1. Computer systems and standard office equipment. 

  1. Shop floor production management, material tracking, and welding/fabrication quality systems. 

  1. Company vehicles as required. 

  1. Personal protective equipment (PPE) required in production and waterfront areas.

Skills Required
