Job Description:

Operate air driven, steel-shot blaster to remove rust/slag and other unwanted properties from trailers and trailer components. Prepares components/trailers for grit-blasting in pre-paint area and performs other duties as assigned by Load King Management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Safely and efficiently use blasting and cleaning techniques in the preparation of surfaces for coating
  • Abrades surfaces of metal or hard-composition objects to remove adhering scale, sand, paint, grease, tar, rust, and dirt, and to impart specified finish, using abrasive-blasting equipment: Shovels or pours abrasives, such as sand, grit, or shot of specified grade into machine hopper.
  • Masks specified areas of object to protect from abrading action.
  • Loads parts on racks in enclosed rooms, into tumbling barrels, or into cabinets.
  • Turns valves on equipment to regulate pressure and composition of abrasive mixture flowing through nozzle or into tumbling barrel.
  • Starts equipment that directs blast or flow of abrasive-laden compressed air, gas, or liquid over surface of parts.
  • Manually directs nozzle over surface of large parts or inserts arms through glove-fitted cabinet openings and manipulates small parts under nozzle for specified interval.
  • Act in accordance with applicable practices, policies, and procedures, when blasting.
  • Must utilize appropriate personal protective equipment when blasting, as directed.
  • Disassembles sandblasting equipment and cleans equipment, using solvent, wire brushes, and dry cloth
  • Must maintain all equipment in good working condition. 

Required Skills and Qualifications 

  • High school diploma or the equivalent.
  • 2+ years of experience 
  • Proficient in modern painting techniques and equipment. Good working knowledge of industrial paints, primers and thinners and knowledge of various machines, painting practices and techniques.
  • Must be able to paint all products in a variety of sizes.

  • Extremely detailed oriented and accurate.
  • Being able to set priorities and adapt to changing work priorities.
  • Meeting deadlines and schedules; must be able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Pride in quality workmanship.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is conducted inside and outside during all-weather types.
  • Temperatures will be variable according to season and specific work site.
  • Tasks may involve moderate to heavy physical labor.
  • Walking, climbing, standing, sitting, and lifting are required

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work in cold and hot weather conditions some part of the time.
  • Be able to grip, pull and push heavy objects.
  • Ability to work with hands and perform routine lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Stand for extended periods of time.

Skills Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 2 years of experience
  • Proficiency in modern painting techniques and equipment
  • Working knowledge of industrial paints, primers, and thinners
  • Knowledge of painting practices and techniques
  • Ability to paint products in a variety of sizes
