Your next career opportunity  
In this role, you will lead the University’s bioresources platform and small animal research infrastructure. You will shape strategy, ethics and innovation at the intersection of research, regulation and infrastructure.  You will influence institutional decisions and sector standards while building a resilient, high-performing workforce.  

 

What you will deliver:  

  • Lead a University-wide bioresources strategy that aligns with research priorities and long-term institutional goals. 

  • Develop and drive sustainable infrastructure, capital investment and operating models for small animal research facilities across campuses. 

  • Ensure robust governance, risk management and regulatory compliance, embedding best practice in animal welfare and ethics. 

  • Lead, mentor and develop a multi-site workforce, fostering collaboration, resilience and continuous improvement in services. 

  • Represent the University nationally and internationally, influencing sector standards, partnerships and emerging laboratory animal science practice. 

  

You may be a great fit if you:  

  • Hold a relevant qualification plus extensive experience in laboratory animal science or research infrastructure leadership. 

  • Demonstrate success influencing executive decision-making and shaping organisational or sector direction in complex environments. 

  • Manage large-scale research infrastructure and resources, including budgets, capital programmes and multi-site operations. 

  • Engage effectively with government, regulators, industry and sector bodies to build influence and strategic partnerships. 

  • Lead complex, distributed teams, building capability and driving change across organisational and disciplinary boundaries. 

  • Apply deep knowledge of animal welfare, ethics and regulatory frameworks, ideally with veterinary or university experience.

You will join the Enterprise Services Group within the Chief Operating Officer Portfolio. This team enables enterprise transformation and operational efficiency, delivering high-quality shared services across the University. The Melbourne Bioresources Platform supports world-class research by housing and caring for diverse laboratory species.

Skills Required
