Biorefining Legal Counsel (m/f/d)
We're looking for a Legal Counsel (m/f/d) to join our Biorefining Legal team at UPM. You have a great long-term interest in growing within the company and scaling up its key business initiatives, in particular UPM Biorefining and Technology. UPM Legal Function is a global function with around 40 professionals assisting UPM's business areas and global functions in a variety of legal matters, including areas of contracts, corporate transactions, and financing, as well as corporate governance and compliance.

What you will do

In this role, you will work with our Biofuels and Biochemicals business teams and their global stakeholders, who have ambitious growth plans to deliver decarbonisation solutions. A good cooperation requires combination of legal expertise with strong business acumen, project management skills and demonstrated influencing and negotiating capabilities

Advance commercialisation of our renewable and sustainable products, solutions and valorisation of side streams with a legal skill set

Work in a key position on complex global growth projects, both in the development and execution phases

Provide strategic IP and commercial legal advice, draft, and negotiate technology-related agreements, including technology licensing

Develop strategic partnerships, alliances, and support in M&A activities

Handle disputes and litigation with third parties

Contribute to team development and growth through mentoring, skill-building, and coaching other team members to ensure the highest quality legal services and compliance
Who you are
-
You have a master's degree in law and approximately 7 to 10 years of legal work experience as in-house counsel or at a law firm

Venturing into new areas is often demanding. Understanding and advancing commercial and strategic drivers is a key qualification for this position. You demonstrate ability to be a hands-on legal integrator and independently lead projects to completion while being comfortable presenting and explaining complex issues concisely to colleagues, management, and business partners with clear recommendations

You are experienced working in a multinational environment, handling a wide variety of contracts. Proven industrial experience from chemicals, fuels, or green energy transitions is considered as a merit

You are familiar with IP and patent law and comfortable working with technology agreements and transactions

You also have experience with M&A, strategic alliances, and partnerships
