The Role

Bioprocessing Quality Assurance Lead (GMP / Automation)

Location: Labman HQ, North Yorkshire
Salary: £45,000 – £55,000 (depending on experience)
Job Type: Full‑time, Permanent

About the Role 

As Quality Lead, you’ll lead Labman’s Quality Management System (QMS) within the Bioprocess BU, ensuring compliance with ISO 9001, customer requirements and regulated industry standards. You’ll work closely with engineering, production and project teams to ensure quality is built in from day one.

Key Responsibilities

Quality systems & compliance

  • Lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the QMS (ISO 9001 aligned)
  • Oversee quality assurance across automation projects from design through build, test and delivery
  • Conduct internal audits, inspections and process reviews
  • Lead root cause investigations and CAPA for non‑conformances across mechanical, electrical, software and manufacturing workflows
  • Maintain clear quality documentation, audit reports and quality metrics
  • Implement and champion documentation lifecycle management aligned to GAMP 5 and system development lifecycles

Leadership & collaboration

  • Provide technical leadership on quality standards and best practice
  • Mentor and develop quality‑focused team members
  • Work closely with project managers and engineering leads to embed quality early in design
  • Act as the quality representative in design reviews, risk assessments and customer audits

Continuous improvement

  • Identify and drive improvements across engineering and manufacturing processes
  • Analyse quality trends and metrics, presenting insights to senior stakeholders
  • Support automation and digitalisation of test and quality processes

Customer & audit focus

  • Ensure customer‑specific quality requirements are understood and met
  • Prepare for and support external audits and customer visits
  • Promote a strong culture of safety, compliance and high‑quality delivery
What We’re Looking For
  • Experience leading quality systems in an engineering, automation or manufacturing environment
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 9001 (bioprocess, pharma or life sciences experience is beneficial)
  • Confidence working across mechanical, electrical and software disciplines
  • A practical, hands‑on approach with strong problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to influence and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams
