Job Description:

Position Overview:
Reporting to the Director of Biomedical Engineering, the Biomedical Technologist performs a variety of tasks associated with the safety testing, installation, calibration, modification, corrective and preventive maintenance of diagnostic, treatment, and monitoring equipment, instruments, and support systems of moderate complexity used in healthcare delivery.
Responsibilities:
• Provide initial inspection, testing on incoming medical equipment and systems
• Install new medical equipment by establishing, adjusting, calibrating, and testing performance
• Diagnose defective medical equipment and important repairs without direct supervision in both shop and clinical care settings
• Perform and record preventive maintenance of assigned equipment through periodic performance checks and measurements in a safe, self-directed and timely manner
• Monitor incoming work orders, prioritize work based on criticality and accurately document all work in the department’s CMMS database
• Keep accurate records of all maintenance activities performed and update CMMS database of record of service, completely and promptly
• Maintain medical equipment supplies inventory by checking stock, anticipating needs, placing orders, and verifying receipt
• Provide guidance, assistance and give feedback to clinical users on various repair activities and procedures, and proper use and care of medical equipment when requested
• Have a working knowledge of all applicable codes and standards for maintaining medical equipment
• Increase knowledge, identify and implement (as appropriate) process improvements that add value by improving quality, safety, savings, efficiency, and work environment
• Meet departmental performance indicators on a consistent basis
• Achieve organizational goals by accepting ownership for carrying out new and different requests, exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
• Consistent with the Biomedical Engineering needs, able to work at SHN three hospitals, may perform other duties as required or assigned
Requirements:
• Diploma in Biomedical Engineering Technology from a recognized program
• Minimum five (5) years recent experience as a Biomedical Technologist in a hospital setting
• Good knowledge of human anatomy and physiology as related to the job
• Thorough knowledge of a wide range of clinical care diagnostic, therapeutic, monitoring and life support equipment
• Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skill required to interact with hospital staff, contractors, and stakeholders
• Proven analytical, decision-making and problem solving skills
• Proven ability to organize work and prioritize schedule using sound judgment
• Conscientious attitude toward safe practices
• Maintains accurate and timely documentation
• Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with colleagues, staff, patients, volunteers, and other members of community and public
• Maintains a professional appearance and demeanour
• Performs all duties related to this position as required
• Demonstrates values consistent with SHN’s Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation.
• Utilizes protective equipment provided and identifies and reports hazards
