You will be responsible for maintaining and supporting biomedical equipment to ensure it remains safe, reliable, and compliant with relevant standards and regulatory requirements.

This role involves working closely with clinicians, contractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders to support the effective operation of biomedical equipment across the hospital. You will provide technical support, coordinate maintenance and repair activities, and communicate clearly and professionally to ensure stakeholders are kept informed and operational needs are met.

The Position:

  • Provide operational support, maintenance, and repair of biomedical and scientific equipment.

  • Install, commission, test, and verify the safety and performance of new and existing equipment.

  • Plan and deliver preventive, corrective, breakdown, and emergency maintenance programs.

  • Manage compliance activities, including patient treatment area testing, gas therapy equipment testing, cybersecurity updates, and accreditation requirements.

  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), providing technical training, mentoring, and support to biomedical engineers and clinical teams.

  • Oversee service agreements, contractors, asset management, documentation, CMMS records, reporting, and on-call services.

  • Support financial management through budget monitoring, cost tracking, invoice verification, and identifying cost optimisation opportunities.

Previous hospital-based experience is essential, as the role requires a strong understanding of clinical equipment, healthcare compliance requirements, and the critical nature of maintaining medical devices that support patient care. You will also be highly proficient in the use of biomedical test equipment and diagnostic tools commonly used in modern healthcare settings.

Exceptional communication skills are critical to success in this position. Candidates must be fluent in both spoken and written English and able to communicate clearly, professionally, and effectively with a broad range of stakeholders, including clinicians, managers, contractors, and technical teams. Based at St John of God Ballarat Hospital, this role works closely with the Ballarat Engineering team and the Ballarat Hospital Facilities Manager. Candidates must be able to travel easily to the hospital, live within a reasonable commuting distance, be available for after-hours call-outs, and hold Australian Citizenship or Permanent Residency.

Above all, patient care will be at the core of everything you do committing to and supporting our Mission and Values.
