The Biomechanist I position includes collection and analysis of 3D and 2D motion capture, ground reaction force, electromyographic, and plantar pressure data on patients to serve as the basis for their clinical treatment planning.  One should expect communication with physicians, scientists, physical therapists, biomechanists, and administrative staff.  You will receive procedure training for all of the aforementioned biomechanical analyses.  There are typically a full case load of lower extremity and upper extremity movement analysis patients. The Biomechanist I will be trained by LRMALab staff to collect and analyze complex clinical cases that lead to sophisticated treatment plans and often post treatment follow-up analyses.

In addition to clinical motion analysis the Biomech I will collect and analyze data in several research protocols such as total knee replacement, knee osteoarthritis, foot and ankle, shoulder and hand/wrist studies.  The opportunity to co-author conference abstracts and peer-reviewed publications exists based upon your effort and diligence to the project.

The LRMALab evaluates a wide range of individuals including pediatric, adult and geriatric in a multi-disciplinary environment.  The central philosophy of the laboratory is to examine the relationship between anatomical and physiological structure and biomechanical function to improve our methods of evaluating and treating individuals with neuromusculoskeletal disease. Our vision is to enhance diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment (conservative and surgical) strategies for such patients through quantitative observation and subject-specific analyses of their ability to perform functional tasks.

Requirements of this position include a Bachelors degree (BS or BA) in engineering, rehabilitation, biology, physical therapy, kinesiology, anatomy, physiology, neuroscience, or a related discipline; interest and basic experience in the motion analysis process; and excellent written and verbal communication skills. The ideal candidate would have substantial experience and expertise in human movement analysis but a strong new graduate will be considered.  Prior clinical experience would be a plus. This Biomechanist I is a temporary position for one year. It is renewable based upon a successful performance review and continued programmatic need. As a temporary position benefits will not be included.
