Axle is seeking a
Bioinformatics Scientist to join our vibrant team at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) supporting the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) located in Bethesda, MD.

Overall Position Summary and Objectives

Under this task order, the contractor will perform bioinformatics methods development, data analysis, and genomics research under the supervision of a principal investigator. The focus of the research will be technology development and the analysis of massive genomics datasets, focusing on the challenges of genome sequencing, assembly, variant detection, and comparative genomics.


Deliverables:

  • Meet with lab members to present updates - Weekly
  • Work products and documents related to programming and analytic support for research projects; installing, troubleshooting and running scientific software; developing and using software tools for emerging genomic technologies; software pipelines for large-scale genomic data analysis; representation and synthesis of complex data; written scientific manuscripts and seminar/poster presentations; detailed project documentation allowing for reproducibility - Ad-Hoc


Work Details:

  • Generate and optimize programs and scripts for the analysis of data; create programs and algorithms and develop computational infrastructure resources for organizing and parsing data from large and complex data. - 1

  • Provide interpretive analyses of data derived from different experimental platforms to generate biological meaning. - 2

  • Design and execute computational experiments. - 3

  • Prepare scientific reports and progress reports; assemble data to prepare tables, graphs and slides; conduct scientific and program related information searches and report results. - 4

  • Assist in evaluating and interpreting results for validity and scientific meaning. - 5

  • Provides programming and troubleshooting support to the Federal Government in the dissemination of research data.
  • Coordinate building bioinformatics infrastructure to ensure easy and meaningful scientific analysis and interpretation of data.
  • Provide broad-based programming and analytic support for a wide variety of bioinformatic and research projects.
  • Performs computations on research data analysis.
  • Provide reports based on analysis of scientific data.
  • Write custom programs and algorithms to support data analyses and discovery.
  • Works with staff on scientific programming and experimental design.
  • Collaborate with scientists to design, analyze, manage and interpret all types of data.
  • Work with staff to develop specifications for new analysis; design, test and implement solutions.
  • Records observations and report results at weekly laboratory meetings.
  • Maintain proper and detailed documentation of the analysis performed and report results at lab meetings.
  • Attend scientific and programming meetings; take and compile comprehensive notes; organize and edit content of meeting reports.
  • Provides statistical support / analysis on research data.
  • Utilize and adapt existing bioinformatics techniques to check for trends and patterns in the data.
  • Perform data processing and data analysis with existing computational and statistical methods.

This role has a market-competitive salary with an anticipated base compensation range listed below. Actual salaries will vary depending on a candidate’s experience, qualifications, skills, and location.
