Job Summary:

Our team of bioinformaticians and data scientists work collaboratively to curate and integrate biomedical data, providing valuable insights into disease mechanisms and protein functions.
The Bioinformatics Analyst I will contribute to the extraction, transformation, visualization, and summarization of complex biomedical data to support research activities. Will also work as part of a team under the supervision of a faculty mentor.

Job Duties:

  • Contributes to joint efforts to apply analytical methodology, including implementation of software and other analytical tools, to answer key questions using large, complex biomedical datasets.
  • Enhances and maintains web applications using Java and JavaScript.
  • Improves the Tomcat 9 webserver to support new features and functionalities.
  • Refines a query tool to access and retrieve data from a MySQL database.
  • Enhances design and develops user-friendly interfaces to display query results.
  • Integrates data from various sources using Python.
  • Collaborates with researchers to understand data requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
  • Ensures the website is secure, scalable, and performs efficiently.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves technical issues as they arise.
  • Maintains study documentation and attends and documents meetings.
  • Assists with database management and biomedical data curation.
  • Aids with computational tool development.
  • Assist preparation of figures and other content for scientific publications.
  • Develops and maintains study documents.

Position Details:

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in web development using Java and JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with Tomcat 9 webserver and MySQL database management.
  • Proficiency in Python for data integration and manipulation.
  • Strong understanding of web technologies (HTML, CSS, AJAX, etc.).
  • Experience with RESTful APIs and web services.
  • Knowledge of database design and optimization.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with researchers and other stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in enhancing and maintaining knowledgebases or similar data-driven applications.
  • Understanding of bioinformatics or related fields.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools and libraries.
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
