The Arc of the Ozarks is looking for a Billing Specialist to ensure accurate and timely billing for client services. In this role, you’ll work with multiple databases, maintain and update client billing records, post payments, and collaborate with directors and team members to ensure accuracy.

What will my day-to-day responsibilities look like? 

  • Be a Mission Ambassador – Represent The Arc of the Ozarks' core values in all interactions. 

  • Manage Service Authorizations – Retrieve, update, and maintain service authorizations from CIMOR in Therap for each program. 

  • Ensure Accurate Billing – Create and process billing files in Therap to communicate with CIMOR. 

  • Maintain Client Records – Work with the Director and Therap Specialist to track changes for individuals entering and leaving services. 

  • Resolve Billing Issues – Occasionally collaborate with SRO to address and correct billing discrepancies. 

  • Process Payments – Post payments to specific client accounts from state payments. 

  • Support the Team – Perform additional duties as assigned to help drive efficiency and accuracy in billing operations.

What do I need to be successful in this position? 

  • Strong Accounting & Billing Knowledge – Understanding of accounting principles, auditing procedures, and fiscal record-keeping regulations. 

  • Tech-Savvy – Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and experience with billing or accounting software preferred. 

  • Attention to Detail – Ability to examine, verify, and analyze financial documents and reports accurately. 

  • Industry Expertise – Familiarity with Department of Mental Health guidelines and modern office practices. 

  • Education & Experience – High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in business, accounting, or a related field preferred. One year of experience in medical or insurance billing is a plus! 

  • Professional & Personable – Strong organizational skills, cooperative attitude, and a professional appearance. 

  • Physical Requirements – Ability to stand, stoop, lift up to 25 lbs., and occasionally push/pull items.

Definition


The Billing Specialist is responsible for billing the State of MO for client services delivered by The Arc of the Ozarks.  This responsibility includes operating in several databases by uploading and maintaining client billing information, working with directors and other members of the Arc of the Ozarks team to create and edit client billing information, and posting payments to specific client accounts.  This position will be supported by the Director of Accounting but will be expected to maintain a high level of independence in order to work efficiently and meet various strict deadlines.

The billing specialist is an hourly, non-exempt position.

Serves as an ambassador of the mission, purpose, and Core Values of The Arc of the Ozarks.

Attend at least two Arc-sponsored events such as fundraisers or networking events.

Essential Job Functions

Retrieves service authorizations from CIMOR database and enters them into Therap client records for each program.

Updates and maintains service authorizations in Therap at least on a monthly basis, if not more frequently.

Creates billing files out of Therap to communicate back to CIMOR.

Communicates with Director and Therap Specialist to add and record changes in the files of individuals served entering and leaving service..

Occasionally communicate with SRO in the case of billing issues or corrections that need to be made.

Posts payments to specific client accounts from state payments.

Perform other duties as assigned.






Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of accounting and auditing principles and procedures.

 

Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, methods, and equipment.

 

Knowledge of laws and regulations governing fiscal record keeping.

 

Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion.

 

Ability to examine and verify financial documents and reports.


Ability to prepare a variety reports and analyses.


Maintain knowledge of Department of Mental Health guidelines

 

Extensive knowledge of computers (Windows, Microsoft Office, etc.)

 

Professional appearance: grooming and dress consistent with professional image

 

Excellent organizational skills

 

Pleasant, Cooperative, & Professional attitude with co-workers

 

Ability to track multiple tasks effectively.

 

Ability to follow through on work assignments

 

Ability to communicate effectively.

Ability to stand, stoop, lift up to 25lbs., and push & pull items on an infrequent basis.


    

Minimum Experience and Training Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required. 

 

Associate’s degree in business, accounting or a related field preferred.  At least one year of experience in medical or insurance billing preferred. 

 

Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office Word and Excel. Experience in billing and or accounting software preferred.
