As a Billing Specialist Supervisor, you’ll join our compassionate, collaborative team where your leadership, attention to detail, and insurance billing expertise can make a difference. This role offers the opportunity to develop and support staff, improve billing processes, solve complex account challenges, contribute to organizational goals, and help ensure the financial processes that support our mission remain strong. We’re looking for a knowledgeable, organized leader with excellent communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.


In this role, you’ll oversee the collection, posting, and management of account payments while supervising commercial insurance billing processes. You’ll help ensure claims are submitted accurately and on time, monitor denials and unpaid claims, review billing trends, support staff with technical questions, and provide leadership that promotes an efficient and collaborative department.

Key Responsibilities:
· Lead and support commercial billing staff by providing day-to-day guidance, technical assistance, training, performance evaluations, and supervision.
· Facilitate accurate and timely insurance claim submissions and help resolve billing or processing issues that impact reimbursement.
· Monitor unpaid and denied claims, review appeals, approve commercial refund requests, and communicate appeal status to the Director of Insurance Billing.
· Maintain accurate, up-to-date reporting on insurance billing, processing timelines, verifications, pre-certifications, denials, and payments.
· Audit staff reports related to claim denials and non-payments to identify issues and support timely follow-up.
· Analyze payment patterns for contracted insurance companies and out-of-network reimbursements, reporting findings quarterly to help inform contracting decisions.
· Review receivable accounts and assist with recommendations regarding collections, write-offs, and reimbursements.
· Evaluate quarterly workload reports and adjust commercial billing staff assignments based on results.
· Promote department and organizational goals by communicating strategic direction, encouraging team participation, and supporting the successful implementation of change and new ideas.
· Provide effective leadership through open communication, collaborative problem-solving, employee development, and appropriate management of challenging team situations.
· Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Insurance Billing, Vice President, and/or Executive Team members.


Education, Experience, and/or Credential Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in health or human services, business, psychology, or a related field; OR
· High school diploma with coursework in typing and business practices.
· At least five years of experience in an insurance billing or bookkeeping position.


Additional Qualifications:
· Considerable knowledge of medical billing and collection practices.
· Basic knowledge of medical coding and third-party operating procedures and practices.
· Superior communication and customer service skills.
· Excellent 10-key and alphanumeric data entry skills with strong attention to detail.
· Proficiency with common word processing, spreadsheet, database, and web-based applications.
· Current driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and current auto insurance.


Physical Requirements
· Perform primarily sedentary work, including sitting for most of the workday with occasional periods of walking or standing.
· Occasionally exert up to 10 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
· Frequently perform repetitive hand, finger, and arm movements for typing and writing during the work shift.
