Our client, a well-established law firm in the Los Angeles area, is seeking an experienced Billing Specialist / E-Billing Appeals professional to join their finance team. This role will be responsible for managing the legal billing process, ensuring compliance with client billing guidelines, and supporting attorneys and finance leadership with accurate and timely invoicing.
This is a full-time, onsite position working Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and reporting directly to the firm’s finance leadership.
What You'll Be Doing:
Manage legal billing processes including time entry review, prebill preparation, and final invoice generation
Ensure compliance with client billing guidelines, including LEDES and UTBMS coding
Review billing narratives for accuracy and compliance
Process billing adjustments, write-offs, and corrections as needed
Submit and track invoices through e-billing platforms such as CounselLink, Legal Tracker, and Serengeti
Manage and track e-billing rejections and appeals
Maintain timekeeper rates, matter setups, and billing system updates
Identify and resolve billing discrepancies and time entry errors
Assist with accounts receivable processes, including payment applications
Support month-end billing cycles and reporting
Work closely with attorneys, billing staff, and legal assistants to resolve billing inquiries
Maintain strict confidentiality with client and financial information
What Are They Looking For:
3+ years of legal billing experience within a law firm
Strong understanding of legal billing rules and client billing guidelines
Experience with legal billing software, such as:
Aderant / Sierra
Elite Enterprise
Elite 3E
ProLaw or similar systems
Experience with e-billing platforms and appeals processes
Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with attorneys and internal teams
What Qualification They Prefer:
Finance or Accounting degree or equivalent relevant experience
Experience working in multi-office or large law firm environments
High-volume billing experience
Advanced Excel skills (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP)
Familiarity with trust accounting (IOLTA)
