The Opportunity:

The Patient Services Representative is responsible for performing specialized and technical duties in support of Cougar Health Services. The duties of the position include, but are not limited to: reviewing medical records to ensure accurate diagnostic and procedure codes, answering telephones, processing and preparing charge documents, submitting claims to various third party payers and state and federal agencies, obtaining prior authorizations and scheduling referral appointments, establishing eligibility, processing medical and pharmacy remittance advices, maintaining assigned insurance accounts receivables, evaluate patient financial status, and other duties as assigned. Medical billing experience is preferred, and knowledge of medical terminology and medical coding is also desirable.

Additional Information:

This is a full (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.
Monthly Salary: $3,485 to $4,633 | Range 38 Steps A - M | Successful candidates are typically hired at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28.
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school graduation or equivalent AND two years of general office experience or one year of office or customer service experience in a healthcare setting; OR equivalent education/experience.

  • Demonstrated experience using MS Office applications, such as Word, Excel, Outlook and/or Access. 

  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills. 

  • Demonstrated strong customer service skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of medical terminology.

  • Knowledge and use of Electronic Medical Records.

  • Documented on-the-job experience in a medical clinic.

  • Experience working with or knowledge of the RCW (chapter 70.02) and the HIPAA of 1996, pertaining to the release of protected health information.

  • Documented training or experience with CPT and ICD-10 coding.
