POSITION SUMMARY:

The Bilingual Education Specialist - GED provides English and Spanish GED instruction to young adults ages 18–25 while supporting their educational, personal, and career goals. This position delivers trauma-informed academic instruction, test preparation, mentoring, and student support services to help participants earn their GED and transition successfully into higher education, workforce training, or employment. The role is embedded within the Youth Opportunity Center model, connecting students to case management, mental health services, workforce development, and mentoring opportunities.  

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  •  Provide bilingual (English/Spanish) GED instruction in Reading, Writing, Math, Science, and Social Studies. 
  •  Develop lesson plans and instructional materials aligned with GED testing requirements. 
  •  Conduct individual and group tutoring sessions. 
  •  Assess student readiness and prepare participants for official GED exams. 
  •  Monitor attendance, participation, and academic progress.  
  •  Build positive relationships with youth and young adults using a trauma-informed and Positive Youth Development approach. 
  •  Provide mentoring, academic coaching, and encouragement to increase persistence and retention. 
  •  Identify barriers to participation and coordinate referrals to appropriate support services. 
  •  Collaborate with case managers and mental health staff to support student success.  
  •  Assist students in developing life skills, goal-setting, and self-advocacy skills.  
  •  Maintain accurate participant records, attendance logs, assessments, and outcome data. 
  •  Enter and manage client information in the Efforts-to-Outcomes (ETO) data system. 
  •  Prepare reports and documentation required by funders and organizational leadership.  
  •  Track and monitor key program outcomes, including student enrollment, retention, GED subject test completion, GED attainment, attendance, and participant engagement.  
  •  Maintain accurate and timely data entry, documentation, and reporting to support program evaluation, compliance, and continuous improvement. 

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  •  Bachelor’s degree in Education, Human Services, Social Sciences, or related field. 
  •  Fluent in English and Spanish. 
  •  Experience teaching adult learners, high school equivalency programs, or youth education programs. 
  •  Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. 
  •  Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and experience with database management systems. 
  •  Maryland Adult Education/GED teaching experience. 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  •  Bilingual proficiency is required. 
  •  Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license are required. 
  •  Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse audiences and deliver professional public presentations. 
  •  Highly organized, adaptable, and capable of managing multiple responsibilities in a dynamic, youth-centered environment. 
  •  Some evening hours may be required.

Skills Required
