• Strategy Ownership: Owns the data and tech strategy for the team .
• High-Priority Projects: Focuses on the most beneficial and complex projects, such as OKR (Objectives and Key Results) design and automation of KR data .
• Technical SME: Serves as the primary Technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) for BI tools and frameworks .
• Transformation: Leads the shift from tactical reporting to a broader "Data and Insights" focus that supports predictive modeling and strategic business consulting .

Essential Duties

Data Leadership

Leads complex metric frameworks, thought partnership, and technical SME support for product teams .

Tech Strategy

Defines the metrics layer underlying all product reporting, specifically utilizing platforms like Snowflake and Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery/Looker) .

Self-Serve Enablement

Owns and enables self-service reporting capabilities to allow business stakeholders to access targeted, product-specific insights .

Mentorship

Supports and mentors other IC leads and team members, providing guidance during technical shortfalls .

Stakeholder Partnership

Partners with business leaders to establish baselines for key results and ensures alignment across siloed OKR development .

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

• Technical Proficiency: Advanced skills in SQL, Python, and Tableau .
• Modern Data Stack: Experience or developing proficiency in BigQuery, Looker, and cloud-based data warehousing .
• Product Analytics: Familiarity with user behavior tools such as Pendo or Mixpanel to capture user adoption and utilization metrics .
• Business Acumen: Strong ability to translate clinical and operational challenges into data-driven solutions .
• Education: Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field (or equivalent progressively responsible work experience) .

Organizational Context

In recent team transformations, the Principal BI role (often categorized as IC - Sr Lead) has been proposed as a way to provide clear technical authority without the overhead of direct people management . This role is considered a SME who stays "up to date" in their field and can expand within their role to take on stretch responsibilities .
