The purpose of this role is to understand the underlying business drivers and commercial models, and translate this into data and actionable insights. The BI Analyst will work closely with cross-functional teams to gather data requirements, design and develop reporting solutions, and support decision-making by delivering accurate, timely, and comprehensive analysis. A key focus of this role is leading the organisation's migration from Looker Studio to Power BI, establishing best-in-class dashboards within the Microsoft ecosystem, and leveraging AI tools — including Claude AI — to accelerate analytics delivery.
- Lead the migration
from Looker Studio to Microsoft Power BI, rebuilding and significantly
enhancing existing reports and dashboards to meet the organisation's evolving
analytical needs.
- Design, build, and
maintain Power BI dashboards and reports that communicate complex data clearly
and intuitively to business stakeholders at all levels.
- Develop and explore
data models in SQL to scope and design change requests for the Data Engineering
(DE) team, and conduct high-volume exploratory analysis in non-production
environments ahead of production deployment.
- Develop and manage
Power BI data models and calculated columns; use DAX as a last resort where
upstream data modelling cannot resolve the requirement.
- Implement row-level
security and workspace governance in Power BI to ensure appropriate data access
controls across teams.
- Create and maintain
self-service reporting solutions, and actively champion their adoption —
educating and enabling business users to become confident, independent
consumers of data.
- Integrate Power BI
with Microsoft 365 tools (Excel, SharePoint, Teams) to embed data insights
seamlessly into daily business workflows.
- Manage analytics
demand effectively by owning and coordinating user requests (UCs), change
requests, and business requirements through the agreed prioritisation and
delivery process.
- Conduct
advanced ad hoc analysis across financial, operational, and commercial data
sets to answer complex and time-sensitive business questions.
- Perform
deep-dive analysis to uncover trends, anomalies, and patterns that inform
strategic decisions.
- Develop and
apply statistical and analytical models to support forecasting, performance
measurement, and scenario analysis.
- Translate raw
data into structured insights with clear narrative and visual context for
executive and management audiences.
- Support the
FP&A team with data-driven modelling for budgeting, forecasting, and
business reviews.
- Identify
recurring ad hoc requests and productionise those insights into automated
dashboards or self-service tools — reducing manual effort, improving
consistency, and freeing capacity for higher-value analysis.
- Use Python
(pandas, numpy, matplotlib/seaborn) for advanced data manipulation, statistical
analysis, and visualisation where SQL or Excel alone are insufficient.
AI Augmented Analytics (Claud AI & Copilot)
- Leverage Claude AI to accelerate data analysis, draft
analytical narratives, generate and review SQL queries, and automate repetitive
reporting tasks.
- Use Microsoft Copilot across Excel, Power BI, and
Teams to improve the speed, accuracy, and quality of analytical outputs.
- Apply prompt engineering skills to extract accurate,
contextually relevant outputs from AI tools for real business use cases.
- Stay ahead of AI developments relevant to BI and
analytics — proactively identifying, trialling, and evaluating new tools and
approaches that could benefit the team.
- Document AI-assisted workflows and share learnings
across the team to build broader capability and a culture of AI-first thinking.
Data Collection, Modelling & Governance
- Gather, cleanse, reconcile, and transform data from
multiple sources to ensure accuracy and integrity across all reporting.
- Develop and maintain data models, pipelines, and
documentation in line with governance standards and best practices.
- Implement data quality checks and validation processes
across all BI solutions before they reach production.
- Maintain data dictionaries and ensure consistency in
definitions and terminology across the organisation.
- Work with IT and the Data Engineering team to ensure
data availability, integrity, and access for analysis — raising change requests
professionally through the Jira process.
Excel & Microsoft Suite
- Build and maintain advanced Excel models using dynamic
arrays, Power Query, Power Pivot, and complex formula logic.
- Automate repetitive Excel-based reporting tasks using
macros, VBA, or Power Automate integrations where appropriate.
- Support the business with Excel-based financial
models, variance analysis tools, and structured data templates.
Business Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Work closely with business units to understand their
goals and challenges, providing data-driven recommendations that support
strategic decision-making.
- Present findings and insights to management and
stakeholders in a clear, concise, and impactful way — translating complexity
into accessible narratives.
- Collaborate with the Finance Team on all aspects of
reporting, including deadlines, deliverables, and iterations.
- Manage multiple concurrent analytics projects,
balancing urgency and complexity effectively.
Continuous Improvement & Innovations
- Identify opportunities to streamline and improve
existing BI processes and reporting methods.
- Stay current with industry trends and best practices
in data analytics, business intelligence, and AI tooling.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of
new BI tools, standards, and solutions.
