Company Description

Founded in the Queensland outback in 1920, Qantas has grown to be Australia’s largest regional, domestic, and international airline. Qantas has a range of subsidiary businesses that support the overall operations of the Group. The Qantas Group’s main business is the transportation of customers and freight using two complementary airline brands — Qantas and Jetstar — operating regional, domestic, and international services.

Job Description

  • Lead BFE procurement and integration across major aircraft programs
  • Drive supplier performance and deliver high impact cabin and fleet outcomes
  • 24 month fixed term opportunity within Qantas Engineering

At Qantas, we’re constantly evolving — modernising our fleet, reimagining our cabin products, and delivering projects that shape the future of travel. As part of this commitment, we’re searching for a BFE Manager to lead the end‑to‑end management of Buyer‑Furnished Equipment (BFE) across both new aircraft (linefit) and retrofit programs, including cabin reconfigurations.

In this role, you’ll oversee the BFE lifecycle including procurement, coordination and integration of key cabin components — such as seats, galleys, furnishings and inflight entertainment systems — ensuring they meet engineering specifications, certification requirements and Qantas’ high standards of quality.

Working closely with aircraft project managers, OEMs, BFE suppliers, Engineering, Supply Chain and other internal stakeholders, you’ll ensure all BFE deliverables are aligned with project schedules, fleet plans and operational needs. You will manage supplier relationships for a defined geographic region, driving performance, addressing risks and resolving issues to safeguard delivery timelines and fleet readiness.

This is a critical role in our aircraft project ecosystem, requiring exceptional coordination, commercial acumen and the ability to navigate complex supplier, regulatory and logistical environments.

You’ll have:

  • 6+ years’ experience in airline engineering, CAMO, aircraft projects, fleet management or operations, including external supplier management.
  • Strong project management leadership within aircraft or cabin programs, with proven capability in procurement and integration.
  • Deep understanding of engineering standards, certification pathways and regulatory frameworks for new aeronautical products.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate with suppliers, manage complex stakeholder relationships and support major program delivery.
  • Commercial acumen with experience in vendor management, contract negotiations and budget oversight.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving ability, with strong judgement under pressure and the resilience to manage tight timelines.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence leaders and work effectively across different business units.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead development and maintenance of BFE product schedules, ensuring seamless integration with engineering, supply chain and aircraft project timelines.
  • Manage delivery of BFE for new aircraft and retrofit programs to agreed cost, quality and timing requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering specifications, certification requirements, regulatory frameworks and airline standards.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with OEMs, suppliers and internal stakeholders to drive collaboration and resolve issues quickly.
  • Oversee all procurement activities and PO management, ensuring robust tracking and schedule accuracy.
  • Manage logistics and shipment schedules for BFE components, ensuring delivery aligns with project and operational needs.
  • Drive continuous improvement in supplier management, processes, and cost optimisation while maintaining quality and compliance.
