Job Description:
The Benefits Specialist is responsible for supporting the administration of employee benefits programs, with a strong focus on self-funded health plans. This role ensures compliance, maintains accurate documentation, and assists with audits while delivering a high level of service to internal stakeholders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support the day-to-day administration of employee benefits programs, including health, dental, vision, and ancillary plans
  • Assist in managing self-funded health plans, ensuring accurate processing and compliance with plan requirements 
  • Maintain and organize benefits documentation, plan records, and compliance files
  • Ensure adherence to federal and state regulations (e.g., ERISA, ACA, HIPAA) related to benefit plans 
  • Coordinate and support internal and external audits by preparing documentation and responding to inquiries  
  • Partner with HR, payroll, and external vendors to resolve benefit-related issues
  • Assist with open enrollment processes, including communications, system updates, and employee support
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding benefit plans, eligibility, and coverage
  • Monitor and reconcile benefit billing and eligibility reporting as needed
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, documentation accuracy, and compliance tracking

Experience and Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred
  • 2–5 years of experience in benefits administration, with direct exposure to self-funded health plans strongly preferred 
  • Working knowledge of benefits compliance requirements (ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA)
  • Experience maintaining benefits documentation and supporting audits 
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Proficiency in HRIS/benefits systems and Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience supporting self-funded or partially self-funded employer health plans
  • Exposure to benefits audits, compliance reviews, or vendor management
  • Familiarity with benefits reporting and reconciliation processes

Skills Required
