The benefits specialist is responsible for assisting with the administration of all benefits and retirement programs, including (but not limited to) medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, and 401(k) plan.

The pay range for this position is $56,208.17-$64,565.51 based on experience, education, and/or licensure:

Essential Functions:

  • Ensures the accuracy of all benefits enrollments in the HRIS to provide vendors with accurate eligibility information.
  • Assists with new-hire orientations.
  • Performs quality checks of benefits-related data.
  • Assists employees regarding benefits claim issues and plan changes.
  • Distributes all benefits enrollment materials and determines eligibility.
  • Enrolls employees with carriers and processes life status changes.
  • Responds to benefits inquiries from managers and employees on plan provisions, benefits enrollments, status changes, and other general inquiries.
  • Processes and administers all leave-of-absence requests and disability paperwork: medical, personal, disability and FMLA & BWC.
  • Effectively interprets FMLA and ADA implications as they relate to leaves of absences/disabilities.
  • Responds to 401(k) inquiries from managers and employees relating to enrollments, plan changes and contribution amounts. Manages the annual catch-up contribution enrollment.
  • Assists with the open enrollment process.
  • Administers the tuition reimbursement & CEU programs.
  • Administers the vehicle lease program.
  • Provides necessary reports for allocation/billing charges.
  • Monthly reconciliation of benefit invoices
  • Travel within designated service area
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

Education/Licensure:

  • High school degree or GED equivalent is required
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources related fields is required
  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) certification credential preferred

Experience:

  • 2-3 years’ experience in benefits administration required
  • 1-2 years experience administering FMLA and other leave programs required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of employee benefits leave requirements and other legal protections afforded by the FMLA, ADA, and other applicable laws
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written is required
  • Minimum of Intermediate level Excel skills
  • Excellent organizational skills are required
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to operate a motor vehicle is required
  • An appropriate level of auto insurance coverage is required
  • Ability to manage deadlines within a fast-paced, high-volume environment is required
  • Ability to operate in an Internet-based, automated office environment is required
  • Ability to maintain high-speed internet connection is required

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer is required
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times is required
