The position may also assist with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accommodations, insurance enrollment, and Virginia Retirement System (VRS) application processing.Job Description:

Essential Job Functions:

  • Manages the Benefits Team email domain; Answers routine questions and escalates questions to the assigned Benefits Administrator, as needed 

  • May temporarily administer school board policies related to leaves of absence, in accordance with departmental standard operating procedures

  • Enters leave-related approvals into the online employee management system

  • Answers general questions related to paid leave benefits

  • Assists with ADA accommodations requests

  • Assists with employee retirement program inquiries

  • Assists with insurance enrollment inquiries

  • Completes record-keeping tasks, reporting, and other documentation required by federal and state laws, school board policies, and provider rules

  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Budgetary Responsibility: 

This position has no budgetary responsibility.

Report Preparation:

Prepares a variety of periodic reports related to leaves of absence, retirements, insurance enrollment, and workplace accommodations

Equipment Operation:  

Regularly utilizes basic office equipment, such as computers, phone, and scanner

Contacts:

This position has regular contact with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) personnel, Chesterfield County Public Schools (CCPS) employees, and CCPS retirees.

Work Direction/Supervision:  

This position does not supervise or provide work direction to others.

  

Decision Making: 

Independent decision-making is used when concerns or questions come up that can be solved logically in the position. The Director’s approval is recommended when the concern or question is more complex.

Formal Policy-Setting Responsibilities:

This position has no formal policy-setting responsibilities, but may provide feedback to the Director of Compensation and Benefits on benefit policies and procedures, as requested.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in an office environment. The noise level is typically quiet to moderate.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, HR policies and procedures, including FMLA, ADA, and VRS procedures 

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, in a tactful and confidential manner in stressful circumstances to all levels of personnel

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of member data

Additional Job Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, or any combination of education and work experience sufficient to demonstrate the required knowledge, skills, and abilities  

Preferred: Professional-level and progressively responsible benefit administration, or HR experience in a setting of related scope and complexity to a school division or similar environment;  Proficiency in the Google Suite of software

  • Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal History Investigation

  • State Police Criminal History Investigation

  • Child Protective Services (CPS) Investigation

  • Tuberculosis Screening/Test

Compensation

$26.98 per hour
