Summary and Objective
The Benefits Specialist & HR Generalist is a blended Human Resources role responsible for both benefits administration and general HR support. In the benefits capacity, this position administers employee benefit programs, including health, dental, vision, life, disability, retirement, wellness, and leave plans, while serving as a resource to employees, providers, and brokers on questions, reporting, and issue resolution. This role also supports benefits billing, reconciliations, audits, and related compliance activities.
As an HR Generalist, this position supports onboarding, employee relations, HR administration, policy and process documentation, HR metrics, and day-to-day employee support. The role serves as a key operational partner to hiring managers and HR leadership, maintaining confidentiality, professionalism, and a high standard of service throughout the employee lifecycle.
HR Benefits Specialist Responsibilities (Approximately 50%)

Administer employee benefits programs, including health, dental, vision, life, disability, retirement, wellness, and leave plans.

Support employees through new hire enrollment, annual open enrollment, and qualifying life events by providing guidance and ensuring timely completion of required actions.

Serve as a primary point of contact for employee questions related to benefits eligibility, enrollment, claims, coverage, and issue resolution.

Lead new hire benefits presentations and assist with employee benefits communication materials, including benefit guides and plan summaries.

Maintain accurate benefits records and HRIS data, including enrollments, terminations, EDI feeds, wellness elections, 401(k) elections, and related reporting.

Coordinate with carriers, brokers, and vendors to support plan administration, resolve issues, provide census data, and ensure smooth delivery of benefits services.

Review and reconcile benefits invoices, support reporting for accounting, and partner with payroll to ensure accurate deductions and billing.

Support compliance with all applicable benefits laws and regulations, including ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, ERISA, and other reporting and recordkeeping requirements.

Assist with leave of absence benefits administration and ensure benefits continuation processes are handled accurately and timely.

Maintain benefits files, policies, procedures, and documentation to support audits, consistency, and compliance.

Assist with benefits renewals, utilization analysis, benchmarking, and recommendations for enhancements to benefits offerings and employee wellness programs.

Partner with HR, payroll, finance, and leadership to support effective and efficient benefits administration.
HR Generalist Responsibilities (Approximately 50%)

Provide employees with guidance on HR policies, procedures, and best practices.

Provide day-to-day HR administrative support, including managing incoming calls and responding to the HR email inbox, with questions related to compensation, leave management, workers’ compensation, employment verifications, and unemployment claims.

Partner with HR leadership on employee relations matters, including exit interviews, investigations, and issue resolution.

Communicate proactively with HR team members and company leadership to support business objectives in a professional, ethical, and compliant manner.

Assist with new hire orientation and onboarding, including ensuring completion of all pre-employment requirements such as background checks, drug screenings, and other regulatory items.

Maintain and update organizational charts, job requirements, and job descriptions in SharePoint and the HRIS.

Draft, update, and maintain HR policies and standard operating procedures to promote compliance and consistency.

Maintain accurate employee records and HRIS data.

Support the implementation of HR initiatives, processes, and systems to improve HR operations.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of HR.

Required Education and Experience

Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).

3 to 5 years of hands on payroll processing in a multi state environment.

Hands on experience using payroll software, preferably Paycom.

Experience supporting payroll tax or state account administration.

Strong attention to detail and ability to meet payroll deadlines.

Must be authorized to work lawfully in the United States without sponsorship.
Preferred Education and Experience

Experience in aviation, transportation, manufacturing, or similar operational industries.

Exposure to complex pay rules (overtime, premiums, per diem, or crew pay models).

Experience supporting payroll in a public company or SOX controlled environment.

FPC (Fundamental Payroll Certification) or progress toward CPP certification.

Experience validating or reconciling timecard imports from third party systems.

Exposure to leave administration or state mandated leave programs.
