Purpose

The Benefits Manager manages the administration, compliance, communication, and continuous improvement of employee benefits, retirement, wellness, and leave programs. This role partners with vendors, payroll, management and HR leadership to deliver compliant, cost-effective programs that support employee well-being and organizational objectives.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day administration of employee benefits, retirement, wellness, and leave programs.
  • Support the implementation of benefit and retirement plan design changes in partnership with HR leadership, legal, fiduciary committee and external vendors.
  • Plan agendas, coordinate materials, and manage quarterly fiduciary committee meetings, including interfacing with fiduciary committee members and related vendors.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable governmental regulations related to benefits and retirement programs, including required reporting, notices, and employee communications.
  • Monitor benefit plan utilization, costs, and trends and provide recommendations to support cost management and employee experience improvements.
  • Use HR technology, reporting tools, and AI-enabled resources appropriately to improve benefits administration, communications, analysis, and process efficiency while maintaining confidentiality and data integrity.
  • Manage relationships with benefits, retirement, wellness, leave administration, and other related vendors to support service delivery and issue resolution.
  • Serve as a resource to employees, human resources, payroll teams regarding benefits, retirement, wellness, leave programs, projects, and communications.
  • Coordinate annual enrollment planning, execution, employee education, benefit communications, total reward statements, and related benefit projects.
  • Support compensation and incentive program administration as needed in partnership with HR leadership.
  • Provide benefits and retirement information, analysis, and documentation support for union negotiations as requested.
  • Maintain benefit plan documents, Summary Plan Descriptions, policies, procedures, and employee-facing resources in partnership with vendors and legal counsel as appropriate.
  • Work in a safe and healthy manner, adhering to all safety rules and practices.
  • Represent the company’s core values of being committed, action oriented, and sustainable.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required; CEBS or other benefits professional certification preferred.
  • 5–7 years of progressive experience in benefits administration, retirement programs, vendor management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, and emerging regulatory issues related to employee benefits and leave programs.
  • Experience supporting annual enrollment processes, employee benefit communications, and benefit plan administration.
  • Experience with self-funded medical plans and retirement plans, including pension plans, preferred.
  • Experience supporting multi-site manufacturing or unionized environments preferred.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate with all levels of employees.
  • Experienced with data management, reporting, analytics, and benefits cost analysis.
  • Comfortable using AI-enabled tools to improve HR processes, communications, analysis, and employee support in a responsible and confidential manner.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent project management skills.
  • Ability to professionally handle confidential matters.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office products and experience using Human Resource Information and Payroll systems; Paycom experience preferred.
  • Travel 15% to 25% as needed.
