GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

 

The Benefits Coordinator supports the Office of Human Resources by helping administer the College’s benefits programs for all faculty and staff.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions:

  1. Processes all benefits enrollment transactions for all College employees, including but not limited to, medical, prescription, dental, pension/retirement, FSA, life insurance, and other benefit plans. Reviews backup documentation and key benefit enrollments, terminations, and changes in multiple databases.
  2. Reviews and utilizes documentation, such as benefit plan documents, College policies and procedures, employee handbooks, and collective bargaining agreements to ensure benefits transactions are recorded accurately.
  3. Manages various benefits-related transactions in the NJ Division of Pensions & Benefits EPIC pension system for Certifying Officer review and approval.
  4. Serves as the primary point of contact for employees on all benefits-related inquiries and questions with the support of the immediate supervisor for guidance and escalation of complex issues.
  5. Coordinates the onboarding and separation of employee benefits, including meetings with employees to explain benefits options, eligibility, contributions, etc.
  6. Serves as liaison with the Payroll Department on employee contributions for benefits elections/open enrollment changes; life event actions, etc.
  7. Collaborates with insurance carriers and healthcare administrators on medical and prescription plan administration. Also, is liaison with College’s insurance broker on dental plan administration.
  8. Assists with updating HR department’s webpages, forms, and other documentation as they relate specifically to employee benefits.
  9. Manages all DCRP NJ State Pension tracking and enrollment/termination actions.
  10. Serves as liaison with our ALERUS vendor on all COBRA enrollments and related employee concerns.
  11. Collaborates with the Senior Benefits Specialist on the department’s Open Enrollments, including drafting communications and scheduling on-campus benefits carrier visits.
  12. Processes all employee tuition reimbursement and employee tuition waiver request forms and communicates approval and/or denial to employees, maintains request forms in a tickler file for course completion and final processing actions.
  13. Processes all employee eyeglass/hearing aids reimbursements and membership dues reimbursements.
  14. Processes retiree supplemental Medigap health insurance premium fast pay forms for reimbursements. 
  15. Assists with general operational tasks for the department as needed.
  16. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Associate Degree;
  • Two (2) years of human resources experience with strong responsibilities related to employee benefits administration; and
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree;
  • Experience working with the State of New Jersey benefits system or knowledge of NJ State benefits
  • Knowledge of ADP Workforce Now;
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws, and compliance topics;
  • Excellent customer service, written, verbal, and interpersonal skills;
  • CEBS, PHR, SPHR, or SHRM certification; and
  • Experience working in a Human Resources area in higher education.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

The work is light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: 

 

  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discrimination in sound.

  • Visual Acuity: Have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading.


SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

 

SCHEDULE: Full-time, twelve (12)-month position
Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
