Job Description:
Requires in-office attendance four days per week Monday-Thursday, with Friday designated as work-from-home.
The Benefits Specialist is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive benefits programs that support both employee well-being and business objectives. This role ensures all benefit plans remain compliant with applicable laws and regulations while balancing cost-effectiveness for the organization and value for employees. A key focus is educating employees on available benefits through clear communication, resources, and ongoing support to drive understanding and engagement. The Benefits Specialist partners closely with HR, vendors, and leadership to make informed, data-driven decisions that optimize plan performance and employee experience.
Responsibilities:
Organize company-wide benefits needs assessments, analyze results, and develop various employee benefits programs, such as retirement plans, wellness, preventive medicine, medical insurance, life insurance, etc.
Oversee annual renewals and claim reviews of benefits plans; communicate and negotiate with benefits providers to identify packages suitable for our employees and cost-effective for the business
Implement and administer benefits programs, including annual open enrolment
Develop and deliver clear, engaging employee education materials and communications to improve understanding, utilization, and satisfaction with benefits offerings
Ensure all benefits programs comply with relevant state and federal regulations
Review financial statements to ensure the company meets obligations to regulatory agencies
Analyze benefits utilization, costs, and trends to recommend cost-effective plan design changes and improvements
Maintain good working relationships with external partners (benefits providers, consultants, brokers, and auditors) and internal partners (HR team members)
Oversee the management of employee benefits administration within the human resource information system (HRIS), Workday
Serve as a subject matter expert for benefits, providing guidance to employees, managers, and HR colleagues
Qualifications/ Experience:
5+ years of experience in a similar role with an employee population of 2000+ employees
Global benefits experience is required
Good analytical, quantitative and project management skills required.
Attention to detail is critical.
Above average knowledge of Microsoft Office products
Working knowledge of 401(k) plans to include administration, testing, 5500, loans, distributions, and understanding of plan design and can assist with plan operations
Knowledge of current federal and state labor/benefits laws and regulations including but not limited to ADA, ADEA, COBRA, EEOC, ERISA, FLSA, FMLA, Healthcare Reform Act, HIPPA, and Pension Protection Act
Experience maintaining vendor data feeds to ensure accuracy in transactions
Experience with an HRIS - Workday experience is a plus
