Summary: Support benefits initiatives (including open enrollment), and take on a variety of administrative responsibilities related to all of our benefits programs. These include medical, dental, life insurance, disability, other voluntary benefits, and our 401k and 403b retirement plans. This role requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
Education Requirements and Experience:
High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D).
Associate's Degree in Accounting or Business Management preferred. 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
Additional Qualifications and Skills:
Knowledge of employee benefit programs such as health insurance, life insurance and retirement saving programs. Be knowledgeable of current policies and procedures, regulations and laws pertaining to benefits and the daily operations of Human Resources.
Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to explain benefits in written and verbal communications to employees.
Proficient use in Microsoft office applications especially Outlook, Word and Excel.
Be familiar with how to access and navigate internet websites.
Strong customer service skills.
Good attendance and punctuality is a must.
Excellent: organizational, public relations and communication skills.
Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize workload
Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision

Duties/Responsibilities:
Maintain confidentiality and professional ethics at all times.
Deliver exceptional customer service to our employees that goes above and beyond.
Lead bi-weekly new employee orientation sessions for new and returning employees.
Educate employees on benefits provided by the LLBO (core benefits and voluntary benefits).
Make presentations to employees for training purposes as requested.
Distribute, receive, review benefit applications forms from employees.
Act as the primary contact for employee benefit inquiries, delivering accurate resolutions in a timely manner. Process benefit changes, updates, and terminations in a timely manner to meet critical deadlines for payroll and vendors.
Maintain the filing system to ensure proper security and compliance with all applicable rules and regulations of Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe benefit's program.

Duties/Responsibilities (continued):
Manage the shared benefits email inbox, prioritizing, responding, and resolving inquiries from employees, vendors, and agencies.
Develop standardized responses for common requests.
Manage and resolve issues related to incomplete or missing benefit enrollments, including life events and dependent verifications.
Assists with special projects as requested including but not limited to; eligibility audits, of hours worked, and benefit statements.
Provide education and enrollment support during open enrollment periods.
Provide data entry to coordinate benefits for LLBO payroll deductions and our benefit carriers.
Responsible for Personnel Action Forms as they become available to the Benefits Office.
Attend and or conduct all mandatory meetings and trainings as required.
Travel in and out of the state on a possibly regular basis.
Understanding and sensitivity to Native American culture.
Adhere to policies governing staff conduct. All other related duties as assigned.

Skills Required

What We Do
The Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe is a federally recognized, sovereign Ojibwe tribal government in north-central Minnesota. It serves its communities through governmental, social, educational, healthcare, elder-care, and emergency programs, while also operating gaming enterprises, hospitality businesses, retail services, and other tribally owned ventures. Its mission centers on representing and supporting the Leech Lake Ojibwe people and managing reservation resources.
