Job Description

About the Role

The Huntington is seeking full- or part-time student, or recent graduate interns for a 480-hour on-site internship program. The internship will be approximately 12 weeks in length, based on a 40-hour work week, with some flexibility to adjust the schedule to accommodate the chosen applicant’s availability.

This position will report to the GIS Project Manager and in collaboration with the Label & Sign Maker with the goal of locating and mapping our garden benches, signs, donor plaques, visitor amenities, and other site furnishings. This intern position is multifaceted and will include the utilization of GIS maps, using survey equipment, making new labels in the label shop and repairing benches as needed.

S/he/they will demonstrate a background of working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, geographic and socioeconomic backgrounds, using a welcoming, inclusive, and accessible approach. 

Essential Duties

  • Assists GIS Project Manager and Label & Sign Maker and in locating, mapping and documenting our garden benches, signs, donor plaques and other site furnishings.

  • Assesses garden bench (or other objects) condition and annotates records.

  • Repairs and replaces labels and dedicatory signage and plaques.

  • Cleans and repairs benches.

  • Clears and restores sites and surroundings.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Candidate Requirements and Experience

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Must be in good physical condition to stoop, bend, walk long distances, and lift moderate and,

        occasionally, heavy loads.

  • Must have attention to detail and precision.

  • Must be able to apply lettering and coatings, take documenting photographs, and enter digital

        data.

  • Must be willing work outside and be able to walk through a 207-acre property.

  • Must be able to work independently without constant supervision or be able to work in teams.

Working Conditions 

Garden work will require awareness and avoidance of potential hazards inherent in a public garden.  Appropriate attire for the tasks assigned may include long pants and sleeves, close-toed, sturdy shoes and hat. Gloves and tools will be provided.
