The Registered Nurse – Bed Center plays a critical role in coordinating patient flow by ensuring timely, safe, and appropriate bed placement across hospital units. This position manages hospital admission requests from multiple entry points—including the Emergency Department, direct admissions, and procedural areas—and collaborates closely with physicians, patient care units, and hospital leadership. In addition to managing bed assignments, the RN provides backup support to the Nursing Supervisor, contributes to process improvement initiatives, and serves as a clinical resource to frontline staff. The RN demonstrates strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and a commitment to patient-centered care and operational efficiency.
Required Qualifications:
- Nursing Diploma and/or Associate Degree in Nursing
- Registered nurse license in the Commonwealth of Virginia or from a state that is part of a Compact agreement with Virginia
- Registered Nurse with at least three years of acute care experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- BSN or MSN
- Professional Nursing Certification
- Previous bed center experience
Skills:
- Broad knowledge of bed placement decision making.
- Knowledge of regulatory, legislative, and DNV standards.
- Demonstrates job related computer competence as seen in patient documentation, information retrieval, electronic health systems (EHSs), and Microsoft Office products.
- Effective verbal and written skills with the ability to collaborate with multiple disciplines throughout the organization.
- Good problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
