POSITION SUMMARY

The Bath Aide provides safe, respectful, and person-centered bathing, hygiene, grooming, and personal care to residents according to their individualized care plan, preferences, and needs. The Bath Aide promotes resident dignity, privacy, independence, comfort, and safety while observing and reporting changes in condition.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provide scheduled and as-needed baths, showers, bed baths, grooming, and personal hygiene according to the resident’s care plan and preferences.
2. Encourage residents to participate in their own care and maintain independence whenever possible.
3. Maintain resident dignity, modesty, privacy, and safety during all personal care.
4. Assist with dressing, hair care, shaving, deodorant, oral care, and other grooming needs.
5. Perform transfers and positioning according to the resident’s care plan, using required equipment and staff assistance.
6. Observe skin during bathing for redness, bruising, wounds, skin tears, rashes, pressure areas, or other concerns and promptly report findings to the licensed nurse.
7. Obtain and document resident weights when assigned and report significant or unexpected changes.
8. Complete required bathing and care documentation accurately and timely.
9. Respect a resident’s right to refuse care and report refusals to the licensed nurse for appropriate follow-up.
10. Follow hand hygiene, PPE, Standard Precautions, Transmission-Based Precautions, and other infection prevention practices.
11. Clean and disinfect tubs, shower chairs, lifts, reusable equipment, and bathing areas according to facility procedures.
12. Properly handle soiled linens, waste, chemicals, and resident-care supplies.
13. Maintain appropriate supervision of residents during bathing and personal care according to their assessed needs and care plan.
14. Immediately report changes in condition, injuries, safety concerns, suspected abuse or neglect, or other resident concerns to the licensed nurse.
15. Attend required training and competency evaluations and follow SMRC policies, resident rights, safety procedures, and applicable regulations.
16. Perform other duties within the employee’s training, competency, and scope of responsibility as assigned.

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS

The Bath Aide is expected to maintain dependable attendance, follow resident care plans and nursing direction, protect resident rights and dignity, and comply with SMRC policies and procedures. Other job-related duties may be assigned based on resident and facility needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Current Kansas CNA certification in good standing.
• Must be at least 18 years old
• Long-term care experience preferred.
• Compassionate, dependable, professional, and respectful of resident privacy and dignity.
• Able to follow care plans and nursing instructions.
• Able to safely use lifts, transfer devices, and bathing equipment after appropriate training.
• Able to recognize and promptly report changes in resident condition.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Regular standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
• Assists residents with mobility and transfers using appropriate equipment and/or staff assistance as required by the care plan.
• Works in resident-care and bathing areas that may be warm, humid, or wet.
• May be exposed to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and cleaning products.
• Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Work schedule may include weekends, holidays, and additional hours based on resident and facility needs.
